Belichick to UNC is really about UNC transitioning to the SEC or B10

UNC is one of the few schools left who can write their ticket to whichever conference they desire. They have money but they've also long put football on the backburner. But, the money is so immense in college football now they can no longer pass up football money. Also, remember UNC has been lockstep with Clemson and FSU trying to end the grant of rights deal. UNC can no longer be a basketball school. To continue to do so is financially irresponsible.

UNC could've hired Sumrall but Sumrall isn't one of the most famous coaches in the world. Belichick can modernize and revolutionize UNC football by generating the interest and most importantly the financial support UNC will need to push their football program to the Power 2 level.

IDK if you read about his "plan"

but it sets him up as able to just be the head football coach/head of football operations.

it also specifies two entirely separate staffs, one for football, one for recruiting.

he's not planning on being a traditional CFB coach, but it does seem like he's really planning to coach some football, and it's not simply about just the transition.

This will implode unless they find the greatest recruiters in the sports history. Belichick without gods chosen QB is mediocre at best. Super interesting.

Would the SEC really kill for UNC?

The better question would be would ESPN kill for UNC? Or, would ESPN think it wise for UNC to go to the B10/Fox/NBC?

This is not actually true.

I think the problem is kids don't really care that much about being developed. But if they do, the opportunity exists.

It will be interesting to see how this works out. For a team like UNC, it's kind of a why not give a shot kind of thing. Everyone else will stick to what works and watch.

At 16 teams, I don't think the SEC is eager to add more, but the league would rather not see UNC go to the Big Ten. It's the same pitch that was used to sell everyone on Texas and Oklahoma joining.

A lot of these folks are young. To hear guys like Everson Walls, LT, Carl Banks, and Pep Johnson talk about Belichick you really start to grasp his genius as a coach. And, not only that he's very well liked by players b/c he gives them a lot of responsibility and a voice in the game planning and as well as with in-game adjustments.

It is actually true.

Sam Rutigliano has a higher winning percentage with the Browns than Big Game Bill. Hell, Bud Carson has a higher winning percentage. BGB is the biggest cheat the sport has ever known (caught twice stealing the other teams gameplan) and he had Brady. Without both the "Goat" is below .500 as an NFL HC.

I would think by now that NC State would be just as much a bell cow as UNC. Nobody thinks about UNC much, or maybe that's because I'm halfway across the country.

So any coach that wins with good players sucks?

If it's so easy, why didn't anyone else do it? Did you ever notice how many great players Brady had around him? Do you know why?

I find this an interesting reason for him to keep coaching.

quote:

Per Connolly, the ex-Patriots head coach and general manager wants “a guarantee that Stephen Belichick will be named the school’s coach in waiting.” UNC would apparently be on board with said plan to make Belichick’s son the head coaching heir.

Steve Belichick recently finished his first season as the University of Washington’s defensive coordinator.

Nailed it!

Bill showed no ability when he didn’t have a QB. I’m skeptical of his patience when the NIL world is perpetual 1 year contracts.
