Sucks, but probably one of the few positions on the field the back up can get a similar job done with little drop off

It’s in Dawgnation. Both Thorson and it looks like Beck out for season.
Good luck CFP defenses planning for our offense because we don’t even know what it will be.

Damn, that really sucks. He’s been a hell of punter for us this season and hope he returns next year.

I would honestly argue this is a big blow. Thorson had huge impacts to every game he’s had to punt. Amazing we didn’t have a single return yard last year and very few this year. Switching the field is BIG. Now we go into the playoffs with a kid that’s never had to do this on a big stage, doing it in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Talent, coaching can help, but the mental aspect will dictate his punts. Not saying its bigger than a few positions, but it’s a huge loss

I agree.
Off the top of my head I think I could easily contribute his ability to pin teams deep inside their own 10 very very consistently and flip the field with banging 60 plus yard punts at times could be responsible for like 2 wins

Flew too close to the sun after his prior tackle.....

He has won some games for us. Period
Any idea if this is why we did the fake when we did?
Is the backup a walk on?
Didn’t realize in stadium that also meant we lost both our FG holders.

Back up is supposedly a highly recruited kid. So he’s legit.

He may end up winning the Ray Guy award this year. For a team in the hunt for a national title, that’s an enormous loss and an incredibly ignorant post from “Dawg4Life47”.

Are you sure you understand how good Thorson was?

He's a great punter. That said, none of us know shite about the backup so maybe there won't be a huge dropoff. Can nearly guarantee there will be a dropoff, the question is how much. Kids these days can boom kicks so wouldn't be surprised if the backup can kick 60yds. It's a question of hang time and placement.

And having the ability to tackle like a rugby player with zero fricks to give and save a TD.

If Stockton is the answer we’ve been looking for as an offense, then maybe we rarely have to punt

Drew Miller's our punter now. 6'2" out of Iowa. Averaged 49.5 yds as a HS senior. #1 rated punter in last year's class.

Do you understand how easy it is to kick it 40+ yards ?
I was a punter in HS for 4 years, not that hard for a GA back up punter to reproduce what will be needed.

I know not all punters are elite game changers who can punt it 60+ with hang time. Hopefully we have a second one on the team.

He’s also a Freshman punting for the first time ever in the quarterfinals of the CFP. Kickers are mostly mental. Also, average doesn’t mean shite in HS compared to hang time and return yardage and location. If you punt 50 yards on a straight line is different than a 50 yard punt with 7 seconds of hang time away from a returner that gets a fair catch or no return….22 of BTs 43 punts were inside the 20. He went like 18 games in a row without a return yard. This is not easy for some kid to come in a replicate as they have real game blitzers and returners on the other side.

So let's just not be in a situation where we have to punt that often.
