Wonder what kind swag they get? A tin of coffee? Maybe a ride with Blue Angels? Some dungarees?

Navy coach Brian Newberry grew up in Moore, Oklahoma. He still has family in OKC, a niece who graduated from OU in the spring.

First game he attended was 1985 at OU. He says his family still roots for Oklahoma

I love playing the military academies in any sport, and consider it a privilege. There is no hate when you play them, only the deepest respect.

Will Navy score more than Bama?

Agree. But just imagine the hatred and ratings OU vs USCw would bring.

This game may not feature many passes. Which means it’ll be a fast game clock wise.

Being in Fort Worth it will bring out some good recruits in a rich recruiting area.

They’re all college kids. None served yet

They start serving the day they arrive just like enlisted at boot camp. Don’t sell short the sacrifices they make going to military academies compared to regular colleges.

I hate that it's in ft worth. I was hoping it would be somewhere I haven't been 100 times.

One drawback of playing these teams is they will have no opt outs and you’ll get their best effort plus there will be plenty of people pulling for them because of who they represent so you’ll be the villain.

I wouldn’t care to play them or army in a bowl, Air Force doesn’t seem to carry the same weight.

If OU doesnt have a ton of opt outs I dont see Navy scoring much if at all.

Texas has had only four football games in history against military academies and only one in the last fifty five years.

You must be old and have a really good memory.

Be wary & alert. Those kids at service academies are thrilled at the opportunity to get a scalp of a big time program. They won't have any opt outs, and unfortunately you guys may have some turnover. They destroyed Mizzou in 09 when we had a disappointing season in the Texas Bowl...it got ugly...and Army got us a couple of years back...(but we had opt outs & transfers as well as being a .500 team. Good luck !

We’ve had 7 portals and a few going pro. QB Arnold was one of them so this will be the Michael Hawkins show. Thats his mom in the first post tweet jumping up and down.

Some posters remind us of great points - there is no opt out for service academies. We’ll get their best. One thing we have is one of the top run stop defenses so that helps.

One other note - its the Armed Forces bowl so all branches will have representation at the game plus a ton of activities leading up to it. This is a recruiting tool for them too, so its not just Navy reps on hand.

We may be able to take something from this to better the game-find a legal way to forbid opt outs. That would at least be a start.

I remember the 2018 clip of the game vs Army. The OU fans were very respectful of Army and it was a tough game.
