assuming favorites won their championship game and final rankings were as follows (and Notre Dame can't be higher than 5th):

No. 12 Arizona State
No. 5 Notre Dame
Winner faces No. 4 Georgia

No. 9 Indiana
No. 8 SMU
Winner faces No.1 Oregon

No. 11 Alabama
No. 6 Ohio State
Winner faces No. 3 Penn State

No. 10 Boise State
No. 7 Tennessee
Winner faces No. 2 Texas

I think the planners of the 12-team playoffs got too cute with their rules on who gets a bye...I guess they didn't want the scenario above, where the SEC and Big Ten were getting the four bye spots...

But this would have been cleaner than the mess we will end up getting...thoughts?

Not sure how that would work. They aren't having two sec teams with a bye.

This is definitely more fair to the 1 and 2 seeds. The current system kinda screws over the top two teams while 4 and 5 have it better

I agree chicken but there is no such thing as common sense in football now. Being a die hard tiger fan, everything going on now in football is hard to watch. Just glad we had 2019 before every thing imploded.

Oregon will have to play Tennessee or Note Dame while Penn State at the 5 would get to play AZ State and then Boise.

They screwed this whole thing up.

Go to 14 teams and only give top 2 ranked teams byes

It’s a lot cleaner than what we’ll probably see… how about 5-12 play a seeded round, then 1 plays lowest seed, 2 plays next lowest… and we do it off the CFP rankings?

It will never be right until they end the top 4 seeds are conference winners. It messes up the seeding, and the #5 and #6 teams will often be significantly under seeded.

As it is the #1 team will likely play the #5 seed in the semifinals. But the #5 seed is in fact the 3rd best team. On the other side of the bracket the #2 seed prays that they play the #3 seed in the semifinals since they will be overrated.
