at this point in the season.
In 2022, at this point in the season the highest ranked team with at least 2 losses to 6-6 or worse teams was #19 South Carolina. In 2023, that team was #18 Oklahoma State.
Bama has two losses to 6-6 teams, with one occurring in the second to last week and that was by 21 points.
South Carolina’s worst loss was to 8-win LSU.

It's almost like there is more parity now than a couple of years ago. I can't really put my finger on any new factors that would have caused the parity though

And this year, 1/3 of the playoff field (and maybe more) is going to have at least one loss to a team that went 7-5 or worse. 2 of them at home. 1 of them against a G5 team.
Notre Dame (vs 7-5 NIU)
Ohio State (vs 7-5 Michigan)
Tennessee (@ 6-6 Arkansas)
Arizona State (@ 5-7 Cincinnati) or Iowa State (@ 5-7 Kansas)
Bubble
Miami (@ 7-5 Georgia Tech)
Alabama (@ 6-6 Vandy, @ 6-6 Oklahoma)
Ole Miss (vs 4-8 Kentucky, @ 7-5 Florida)
The only reason Alabama and Ole Miss are alive in the conversation is that combined they roughly the same number of ranked wins as every other team on this list combined.
vs #5 Georgia
vs #5 Georgia
@ #13 South Carolina
vs #13 South Carolina
vs #22 Missouri

In 2006, Arkansas beat Alabama. Not since.

I'm amazed at the mental gymnastics it takes to work around the very simple fact that South Carolina lost to Alabama(and Ole Miss).

You want to rate an entire season based on Bama’s 2 point win at home. Congrats on your retardation.
Bama fans can be butthurt that I choose to look at the entire season, but just know that my method of evaluation had me arguing strongly for Bama over Texas last year and I got a lot of shite for it then.

When we're comparing two teams with the same record playing in the same conference, yes, I will use the score of their h2h matchup to rate them

If we get to choose just one game to rate a team by, I’ll choose Bama’s 21 point loss to 6-win Oklahoma.
Under this methodology, Bama had a historically awful season.

This seems like the most cherry-picked stat ever. Just say you don’t like Alabama and the thought of them possibly making the playoff makes you big mad.

17 straight will do that.

Translation: I hate you put the work in to show how much of a fraud Bama’s playoff bid is.

In the two prior years I’ve been accused of having a Bama bias during these discussions on the MSB. I’m sort of infamous over there for that. Nice try though.

Mental gymnastics is choosing to think a 2 point win at home has more weight than the other 22 games the teams played.

Well if Bama only loses to mostly non ranked teams while South Carolina loses to mostly ranked teams, I suppose that means Bama is more deserving because all the teams they'll be playing in the playoffs are ranked.
Check mate.
