His performance was putrid at times, he wasnt what we wanted at Qb, but he handled failure with class. He didnt shite on the coaches, didnt shite on his team mates. He took the blows and kept his head up. Tough job.

Glad to see him go, but props to the man.

The Man in the Arena is something that's really stuck with me lately so I've tried to avoid being "the critic", especially when it comes to players doing things I certainly couldn't do. Still working on it with our head coach.

I was not a fan of his game or general demeanor at all but Payton got a lot more crap than he deserved from our fans because, like Bo before him, he was far from the only problem but was the easiest target. That said I'm beyond ready to turn the page on this chapter of AU football. Wish Payton nothing but the best going forward.

Just watched his post game presser. I feel bad for the guy. He struggled to make it through the interview. I wish nothing but the best for Thorne.

Chances are he will miss some aspect of the “coverage” and you end of losing your home or something.

Sorry that bait was just hanging out there. Props to him to not throw a hissy fit even once. But also indicator of not having the dog in him to play big time ball.

He seems like a great guy and I have no doubt that he wanted to do the job

He just didnt have the tools. He was a overall terrible QB for us and there really is no way to sugar coat it.

Lets move on. New meat. Hopefully our inept head coach will do what he is getting paid millions to do and put a capable offense on the field in his 3rd season

If not, crank up old rocky top and spin the wheel

***an overall, you neanderthal

Third in the SEC is terrible amirite? We haven't seen 21 passing Tds, or 2,700 passin yards in 11 games since at least Nick Marshall so he is terrible.

When Freeze starts another average portal transfer next season who also fails to make a difference with his chaotic, ineffective offensive "gameplan", I suspect memory will turn a degree kinder on Thorne. He wasn't a gamechanger, but he's hardly the entire problem.

I think the kid played up to his limitations which is all anyone can do. He would have made James Madison or Temple a good QB but the SEC was too big an ask for him to be successful. It’s as much on Freeze for repeatedly asking him too do something he is not capable of doing. I like Payton Thorne as a guy and I imagine he will be very successful in life.

I hate when QBs you can't stand on the field seem like great dudes off. Best of luck, just go away.

You seem emotionally distressed by a QB doing his best

He would have done great in a lower conference.

Us arm chair QB couldn’t see with tv angles, but those who went to games said Thorne just couldn’t see guys wide open.

SEC is too fast for him. How many transfers in the past holstered the same fate. Come to us and can’t even crack the starting position.

Thanks for your service, but it suck’s bc we had a favorable year to make the playoffs.

Our OL and ST were garbage and the receivers were learning throughout the year. Believe it or not there are more positions than QB.

I was just reading this piece on SDS where they are giving out season grades for each team. In this piece on Auburn it mentions that Thorne has another year of eligibility. Is this true?

Thorne great person and tough as nails. Fact he choked in all big games was as much as his coach’s fault as his. Throwing the ball away on 4th down, out of bounds one free plays, just not coached well. But Thorne didn’t call the half back pass yesterday. That was the real idiot.

That is false. Thorne summarized his career holding back tears last night.

If he comes back to AU, it’s time to just burn your gear and pull for someone else. You can’t shite on the product for this long and believe people will still pay to see it. All position groups were upgraded this year on offense, except 1 - QB and we were worse. I don’t care how bad the new QB is, it will not be the same crappy product we’ve had to endure for 2yrs.

That's what I thought. That was the first I had seen that he had a year of eligibility left. I figured that would have been a topic on this board if it were true
