Rumblings from Clemson that Dabo is retiring

I have heard from some connected Clemson folks that Dabo is hanging it up after the bowl game. His stubborn stance against all of the recent changes in college football have worn him down and he now thinks Saban had the right idea about leaving the game. The 105 man roster cap may have been the final straw. Dabo, as a former walk-on, really admired and respected those kids that chose to play on their own dime, just for the love of the game. With the 105 roster cap, walk-ons at the higher tier P4 schools will be a thing of the past. Teams like Clemson and Alabama can and will fill every one of those 105 spots with a scholarship player and who can blame them? But that may have pushed Dabo over the edge and the strong rumor is that this is it for him, he’s calling it quits after the season is over.

I doubt it. He will make them pay him to leave.

Yeah , he ain't walking away from that bag. I could see him in politics, though. Prob. Beat that eternal bachelor Miss Graham in a primary.

It wouldn’t shock me if he did just because so many coaches are on the verge of saying “f this” because it’s so damn hard/annoying with the new rules.

I would too - the changes happened so fast it is hard to adjust

It wouldn’t shock me. Why do you think Saban got out? It’s basically a 365, 24/7 job now, trying to recruit and hold on to the ones who’ve said they are coming. Oh and you also have to keep the current players happy so they don’t jump into the portal. Wouldn’t shock me at all.

He may be too much of a lead dog at this point in his life, but I could see him following the chip Kelly route and go be a coordinator if he still wants to coach without the headache.

Cry me a fricking river. The coaches have continuously pushed for every dime they could get and left kids they recruited for better opportunities.
I haven’t the slightest sympathy for them. I actually think it’s funny.
Let them leave and the next man up can get that $10,000,000+ salary.
As for Dabo, I wouldn’t be surprised if he hung it up. However, don’t bitch about NIL and the portal when you’re making $11,500,000 to coach an amateur sport. This shite isn’t about education.
As for walk-ons, it’s not just about the “love of the game” even with them. Even if you’re not a starter, or even a role player, there’s a certain status to just being on the team and even getting a ring. If John Doe from Smalltown, Alabama, has a ring, gets to dress out for big games, etc., those are cool things for them to talk about back home to their friends, family, former high school teammates, etc.
Guys don’t play football because they love every second of busting their arse and playing and practicing in extreme heat or cold. And they don’t play because they love their school.
Guys crave glory, status, money, accolades, and pussy. If you want your school to be more important to 18-22 year olds than any of those things, you’re going to be disappointed.
