Not really.
Lone Star Showdown was trademarked back in 1996.
But that’s just a manufactured moniker created by commercial entities.

It’s pretty much always been Ags vs Horns.
Or the Thanksgiving game.
Or Texas-Texas A&M.

If you watch on TV you'll probably hear Lone Star Showdown said often.

It's not a rivalry. It has no special meaning other than aggy gets an annual arse kicking.

OU is our natural rival.

Isn't this game supposed to be a thanksgiving game? Will it revert back to that?

… supposed to be ….

Depends whom you ask.
Traditionally, absolutely.
I fall into this camp.

But television, money, and viewership has entered the chat to the degree that it’s affected the current arrangement.
In particular, it became a numbers game/ratings competition with the NFL.

As I understand it, UTex’s AD, Chris Del Conte, wants it back on Thanksgiving; while A&M’s AD, Trev Alberts, has gone on record that he’s not interested in a TG-day kick this year but is open to it in the future.

You are either really young or in denial. It's not only a rivalry, it's just as important as the ou rivalry. Denying it only strengthens that argument.

It's a huge game to this state. We all have family that attended and/or root for both schools and that game was huge every thanksgiving. About time we got it back.

Always just called it the Texas game or Texas-Texas A&M. I wish it was every Thanksgiving night but with NFL I doubt it.

It’s the A&M - Texas game.

Its theme is football… not cocktails, or state fairs, or anything else.

I'm 69 years old. Possibly I've seen more than you. I remember when they were all males and everyone of them I personally knew were weird.

They were all in the ROTC and were responsible for inventing some very strange and obscene so called tradition. Yet as strange as these boys were, none of them came home and told there Moms about their newly discovered traditions.

Then they allowed women, I don't remember them at all until many years later, but I have a hunch the original ones were super weird.

I'll tell you what it's not. It not as important as our rivalry with Texas Tech. At the very least the Red Raiders were much more normal.

This also goes for Baylor, TCU, SMU, and Rice. In absolutely no way can anyone associate any them with a cult. Normal people.

Yet for no other reason than money, we decide to leave normal people behind for these cult members who hate us and everyone else outside of the cult.

The longer they cling to their cult traditions the stranger they become.

Yes we do, as a show of your support for the stranger side of life, why not ask em about some of their obscene traditions this Thanksgiving. Please pass the turkey, and could you explain why your boy cheerleaders symbolically squeeze their balls behind the goal post after each score.

You won't do it.

Wasn't the least bit difficult.

Possibly you'd like to answer my Thangiving day question about your boy cheerleaders?

At one time, it was always played on Thanksgiving. But, tv and Houston joining the SWC changed that.

I don't think it's going back. Back in my day, students would opt to stay on campus (with classes being held on Wednesday) to go to the game and miss Thanksgiving with the family, but times have changed. Now, they don't have classes on Wednesday, and a lot of classes take a walk at the instructors choice on Monday and Tuesday, so kids leave town. For season ticket holders that don't live within daytrip distance, a 2 night minimum at hotels makes a Thanksgiving game (or even a Black Friday game) really suck. Saturday is the best day.
