No way around it.

I see 2 main options.

1. We get to the tu game with all the hype imaginable. The return of the rivalry. SECCG on the line. Then we lose. No Atlanta. No Playoff. No Rivalry win.

2. We Beat tu. We get to Atlanta. Everything is coming up Aggies! But then we lose to UT in the SECCG and then get left out of the playoffs due to the log jam of 2 loss teams while we have 3 because we played an extra game.

Sure there is always the chance we screw it up and blow to the Auburn game, but that's less likely IMO.

Obviously, #2 is the superior option, but to finally make it to Atlanta only to lose it then watch tu, who we beat, Bama, who lost to Vandy, and Georgia all get in ahead of us will sting mightily.

All very realistic. I’d also say this, it’s only year 1 of the Elko Era. Make it to Atlanta and see how things play out. Either way it’s been a pretty good start to elkos time here.

Short of dropping 2 this year, Elko will exceed expectations. But expectations change as the year goes on.

I agree with this, but regardless of how it shakes out I won’t call this season a failure. Short of dropping the last 3 games

Unfortunately think it’s gonna be #1.

The horns aren’t as great as they think they are and have played a weak schedule. But so have we and it’s hid a lot of our issues on this roster. I still think Elko did a good job shoring up the team in spots and this year is certainly an improvement, but I just don’t think we have the horses to win that or the sec championship. Hope like hell I’m wrong but in an era where it’s all about putting up points, our offense just doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.

Again, certainly a step forward from last year and I’m happy with where we are at post Jimbo year 1, but we still got a lot to work on if we wanna be a regular contender for the SEC.

Yep, the manner in which we lost at SCe has made me less confident for the rest of the season. Not the loss itself, mind you, but the O laying a goose egg the entire second half, and the D keep missing tackles and getting gashed.

Auburn has a tough running back too, and they can sling the ball downfield as well. TU's O is blasting on all cylinders, and if we can't get to their QB then it'll be a long game-- especially in their dink/dunk slant pass and running game.

Meanwhile, our OC and HC got egotistical and refused to use a better passing QB against SCe whose D was suspect against the pass...instead doubling down on the mobile QB game... even after the main RB got carted off the field, limiting the ground game even more. THAT is not thinking dynamically, but rather getting punched in the nose, hitting the ground, and not getting back up. The way in which the coaches have made in-game adjustments and looked for good match-ups, I was expecting a better game called.

Maybe the week off has helped. We shall see.

As the OP said, expectations were made to rise but now they're being dashed. It feels bad because this schedule and other teams' being relatively down made THIS year being the year for A&M to break through. It still can, but it'll take getting more out of coaches and players than I see likely.

Doesn't it always? Unless you win the championship, it's going to.
