Tuberville was Auburn's best coach since Pat Dye and they fired him. He wasn't the greatest of all-time but he consistently gave them good seasons.
2000: 9-4
2001: 7-5
2002: 9-4
2003: 8-5
2004: 13-0
2005: 9-3
2006: 11-2
2007: 9-4
Then 2008 happens, culminating with a 36-0 loss to Alabama in the Iron Bowl, and they can him. But there hasn't been a coach on the Plains since Tubby that has had as much consistent and sustained success overall or against Alabama.

Tubby's was aided by BAMA being on probation. Helped him on the field and with recruiting.
When our numbers were up at the start Franchonie beat him 31-7 at the barn. When Saban got his second class of recruits in we beat him 36-0. We could have named the score in the 36-0 win.

Tubbs stopped recruiting. That was his problem.

Tubbs problem was we hired Saban and got our numbers back up.

That there be a trend.

It was a combination. The season would end and while most coaches focus on NSD - Tuberville would spend weekends in Arkansas hunting. Towards the end he got complacent and felt untouchable because he rolled off six straight against Alabama. Auburn wanted him gone in 2003 but got caught on a tarmac in Louisville trying to persuade Petrino. Then Tuberville went 13-0 and they had no choice but to love him.
Then Tony Franklin and 36-0 happened and they fired him without hesitation out of fear for what Saban was building.

If nothing else, Auburn fans are consistent. “Tubbs stopped recruiting so we fired him”. “Gus stopped recruiting so we fired him.” “Harsin never recruited so we fired him.”
Since it appears the only thing that Freeze actually does is recruit, it will be interesting to see how Auburn fans try to spin it when Freeze is fired next year.

Freeze is awful. Worse than Harsin who they didn’t even give two full seasons.

Always nice to see stats trending in the right direction.

They’ve turned into Tennessee after they fired Fulmer. I love it

Meanwhile, Georgia fires a coach with a 74% winning percentage and their next coach proceeds to have an 85% winning percentage.

Yeah but Brother Hugh is probably gonna make Milroe look like a bigger bitch than Tennessee did.
