“Sometimes, it feels like we’re running around plugging holes with good intentions,” LSU coach Brian Kelly told me in July about college football’s shoot-first, ask-how-the-darn-thing-works process of copying an NFL model.
Someone did not know they need to have encryption of devices. Devices have been returned to have updates installed. Kelly had more sense than the the powers that decided to have helmet communications.

I miss the good ole days when we'd have guys like Connor Stalions go in undercover with a great disguise to steal signals. Once again, not unlike the tale of John Henry, technology claims the job of another blue collar, hard working man. Sad times.

There is another article that this issue was caught in the Texas A&M vs Arkansas game at Cowboy Stadium. It was actually the Dallas Cowboys people that informed A&M and Arkansas their communication wasn’t secure, and the schools reported it to the SEC. Then Texas Tech voiced issues too. Going to read what Kelly said in a bit.
But apparently a software patch was issued that should fix this before this weekend’s games.

I miss the good old days when the quarterbacks called the plays.

This is on the schools and conferences. You can encrypt your devices pretty easily.

Yes you can easily encrypt your devices, but you would expect something like this would come to you already on a closed system specific for your school. Or at least be told when it's delivered that "hey you're gonna need to do your own encryption if you don't want the channels crossing with the opposing team."
