Saban famously did not allow assistants or players to be interviewed except for specific and limited times or if it was mandated (postseason, etc).

I’ve seen some embarrassing and stupid quotes by players and coaches recently. Ex: Wilkin Formby was quoted this week as saying, among other things, “I think most importantly, we’re just gonna show - I feel bad for Mizzou.”

Also, Sheridan having to answer the question about the WRs doing the fake jump shot. Whether you think it’s a big deal or not, it was not a good look.

This kind of shite is just plain stupid. Shut your mouth, go to work and do your talking on the field.

I miss The Dictator.

It wasn’t just Saban, Alabama’s press stuff from Bryant to Shula was always on Monday (Barn was on Tuesday) and interviews with players had to be set up in advance and done then.

The dictator left because you can't have that system anymore in the new world of college football

Also, I refer everyone to the thread I started a little while ago about “The Dictator” telling Pat McAfee today how he’d had to change his coaching style to something that sounded a whole less dictatorial.

I remember a reporter asking Jeremy Pruitt what he thought about that after he returned to be the DC at Bama. His answer was one team one voice. Pretty damn good. Now you watch Kane Wommack every week up there acting like he's the smartest guy in every room.

I’m liking and watching less and less college football… each week.
Talking about this at dinner with a few couples… and every guy said the same thing. If I wanted to watch paid athletes not give a shite I’d just watch NFL… no thanks.

I know that Alabama fans are among the most passionate and loyal in the college ranks. However, I can see what you are saying becoming a slippery slope around the country as a handful of Uber-wealthy schools are able to corner the market for the best players, and meanwhile the cost of attending games and supporting programs continues to escalate at exponential rates.
I am certainly right there with you already and I think many more will follow.

To me, this new era barely feels like collegiate sports anyway with so much player movement and so little loyalty remaining. Might as well just watch on Sundays.

Yeah, money has never mattered when it comes to winning in CFB. Having tens of millions available to spend on coaching staffs, facilities, recruiting budgets, etc., never made a difference.in player acquisition before NIL.

They weren’t loyal before. They just didn’t have as many options.
