Since they could be a cluster of teams tied at the top when the regular season ends, I thought I would post this:
quote:

The SEC will use six potential tie-breakers for the 2024 season in this order until the tie is broken:

Step 1: Head-to-head competition: This is the easiest tie-beaker. Did Team A beat Team B?

Step 2: Record vs. all common conference opponents.

Step 3: Record against highest (best) placed common conference opponent in the conference standings, and proceeding through the conference standings among tied teams.

Step 4: Cumulative conference winning percentages of all conference opponents among tied teams.

Step 5: Capped relative total scoring margin vs. all conference opponents among the tied teams.

Step 6: Random draw.

The second tier will be interesting for teams that do not play each other but have common opponents with an upset involved.

For instance, A/M has advantage over Tenn because they do not play each other but have both already played Arkansas as a common opponent.

I don't like #3. It should be record against lowest ranking common opponent.

This will be a year where you may be better off not going and losing in Atlanta if you want to make the playoff.

Sure if win the SeCCG you are in. But if the CCG is your third loss, you get left out by having to play that extra game

This is coming and it’s going to be a shitshow. Once it screws one of the big brands the CFP will make a new rule around it.

The irony is that this “random draw” will have Alabama versus Alabama.

Any way you analyze it, A&M is in the best position to make the SECCG as of now. A lot can and will change though.
