6-6 with what Shula had done. Alabama was as down as I have ever see. Them in my 35 years of watching Alabama football.
Year two with one recruiting class and Shula players went undefeated in the regular season and lost to Florida in the SEC CG. This shite show at Auburn is on Freeze, nobody else!

Apples to oranges, but also not trying to defend Freeze
Different recruiting game entirely
ETA: this probably actually reinforces your overall point tbh. With the portal and all.

I remember going to Alabama games at legion field when I was shorter than the chain link fence that went around the field. I would press my face to the fence and look through one square waiting for Coach Bryant to walk out of the tunnel and lean against the goal post and light a cigarette. It was like God walked out of the tunnel. He use to wear wingtip shoes or either a pair of those old browning kangaroo skin upland bird hunting boots. Those were different times. Rarely was a game ever on tv and it was usually Notre Dame. Seeing Alabama on tv was a big deal when I was a kid. The entire city looked like a ghost town on Saturday and we would all listen on the radio.

In another thread you claimed to have watched Bear coaching Bama as a kid. Bear coached his last game at Bama over 40 years ago. Why lie in that thread?

Yeah but Alabama hired Husky Harsin who can only beat lowly teams like Cal...

Shula had talent at Bama. Andre Smith was a 5*. Javier Arenas. Simeon Castille was 1st string All-SEC. DJ Hall was a 1000 yard receiver. Shula had Rolando McClain committed. Wasn't Wallace Gilberry there?
Freeze inherited a RB...

Saban’s 2007 team was the first Bama team in 40+ years to not have a single player selected in the subsequent NFL draft.
That cupboard was as barren as it’s ever been.

Once the DJ Hall's cleared out the culture improved for sure.

I look at it like dropping two and a half bills on a pound of premium wagyu beef. If you leave it sitting out in the sun in August for two weeks, it's going to be just as useless as any other bullshite you leave sitting out to rot.

Well you had first round talents not draft eligible.

Does anyone remember the username of the “Alabama fan” that posted exactly like this? Like he was in the midst of having a stroke every post? That guy just disappeared. I wondered if it wasn’t an act. I wondered if the guy really had health issues and he may have died. This new guy started posting a month ago and I smiled. It was clear that the Alabama stroke victim guy was still alive and posting like he is trying to make up for lost time.
