Because some people have a sense of humor and are mentally capable of separating the joke from the actual act.
Turns out, he's only making reference to beating a football team and isn't actually running a pit bull fighting ring.
What I like about it is that he isn't being throttled by the ignorance of others. I'll give the actual joke about a 3/10.

You're just pretending to like it because he plays for your team. Vick is a POS who abused animals. It's nothing to make light of. It's okay to say Williams is a hell of a player and at the same time not excuse his behavior.
