Serious question.. why did Elko not try to keep Petrino? From watching the game last night it looked like the QB play isn't as good, or am I just imagining that? Look.. I'm not complaining as we got lucky and got Petrino back... just hard to believe he didn't try to keep him.

Petrino wasn't even allowed to run his own offense. He had to learn Dumbo's overly complicated system and call plays within that. And he still kinda killed it.

Boosters forced the Petrino hire there. OP's point is valid.

It's a very valid question. BP is a scumbag, but he can coach offense / QB's, and after watching that abortion of an A$M offense, they need it.

The last two head coaches to hire him were in win-or-else situations. They basically are/were coaches desperate to hang on to their jobs. Desperation leads men to do things they wouldn't ordinarily do.

Petrino has been a very good offensive coach. He also brings a ton of baggage, which includes a history of backstabbing his superiors, as well as off-the-field stuff and just being an a-hole in general.

A head coach in his first year on that particular job with no connection to Petrino probably didn't want to put up with the other stuff that comes with having Petrino on your staff.

Yes, I was shocked when Petrino said he basically had to run the offense with Jimbo terminology.. so it set him back big time. Maybe if Fisher would have let Petrino just run the offense things might have worked out. We will never know now.

oh, ok, well then it's probably as simple as petrino being a massive piece of shite that only coaches who are backed into a corner would work with

Very great points.. maybe Elko didn't feel comfortable with Petrino on his staff for these very reasons. Never thought of it that way.

He needed to go get a QB from the portal. He didn't have much to work with.

I think if he was allowed to stay then better QB play would be enough to beat ND.

Meh…Petrino seems much much different from what we saw leading up to 2012. I’m not sure he wants to be head ball coach anymore

He's mellowed out a ton, actually smiles and laughs and seems to be enjoying just calling plays and designing an offense. I don't think he wants the pressure of being a HC anymore, in his own words he's just enjoying more time with his family without all the stressors

I agree he's mellowed. He's been relegated to a coordinator at the top level. I think if he's ever a head coach at a high level again some of that fire will come back.

Hopefully it's at Arkansas. Not that I want Pittman gone. I hope Pittman can gracefully retire and hand over the reigns.

When I said he would be the next head coach at Arkansas I should have added that Pittman would retire to a job in the athletic department.

He’d be a better head coach than what the Aggies currently have

I’m not saying he still doesn’t have fire. I think on the field you will still see the passion he’s always had. Currently, He has complete control of the offense as he did as a HC. He doesn’t have to worry with NIL or Operations. He just doing what he’s always known for with backing from the program.

All of that said, I do think if Sam rights the ship, he will retire and BMFP will be our next HC. I do not think he will be a HC at another school. My .02

Completely agree. If they turned him loose, with his QB, they win.

Until Arkansas punts, settles for a FG or has a turnover, there shall be no further bad mouthing of BMFP allowed.
