…in predicted order of finish?

I feel like they are much stronger than 7th or 8th place.

What is holding back the perception?

Lack of overall talent compared to the rest of the conference

Inexperienced young quarterback, the alters will swear he's the GOAT but he's really an unproven sophomore at this point

Depth. Overall talent. The SEC just got deeper. Tennessee will still be good. 9-3 is likely 7th or 8th place.

I think Nico gets jumped in Norman. Venables has his guys in there and he does well against spread/air-raid concepts.

If depth is the issue, why was Heupel so competitive in his first year?

I’m not trolling (LSU Fan) but my overall impression is slightly higher than most on here…I can buy the inexperience at QB…so not really sure why LSU is consistently ranked ahead.

Remember when people actually bought into their preseason Huep.

Air raid? We run the ball more than we throw.

LINK

That said, I am worried that playing in Norman for their first SEC game could end up being a buzzsaw for my Vols.

I feel like 5-8 are pretty interchangeable. One of them probably will have a good year.

They were 7-6.

You do know Lebby runs the exact Offense because Lebby and Josh come from the same coaching tree?

Also VB was the DC when Josh was a player he also coached with him for Ten years.

Venables knows everything about your Offense.

Likely reasons for LSU being ranked ahead of Tennessee are probably that the LSU coaching staff has been more successful, LSU has more talent on paper, and Nuss is a redshirt junior while Nico is a redshirt freshman.

Those points can be argued as far as relevancy, but they are relevant points.

Plus, Tennessee is going to play Oklahoma, Georgia, and Alabama, with OU and UGA being on the road.

Not saying Vennables is in for surprises, and I know Leach had an influence on Josh, but to call the offense Josh runs right now an "air raid" isnt accurate.

And it works both ways. Im sure Josh has an idea of what Vennables defense is going to throw at him.

People think an "air raid offense" means a team throws a lot, it has more to do with receiver route concepts.

Really, any modern passing offense uses a lot of Air Raid concepts.

I would say Tennessee runs a mash up of an Air Raid offense with some Briles-esque RPO concepts.

The most unique thing about Tennessee's offense is some of those really wide WR alignments.

Tennessee’s defense will surprise some folks if inexperienced DB’s come around. Defense line is as good as it’s been in 20+ years. Depth is not the issue there or the Oline. QB, RB, LB, and DB is where the depth (inexperience) comes into play. No major injuries there and very well could be a playoff team.

Because people don't like UT. They'll only get credit when they earn it beyond the shadow of a doubt.

LSU fans will be in a huge shock when LSU ends up losing 3 regular season games again.

I agree with you 100% it's not the Air Raid and the Offense that Josh runs was started by Leach then Mark Mangino added the run to it, Kevin Wilson perfected it then they topped it off with some of Art Briles stuff.

Historically, for Tennessee to do well, the SEC needs to be down.
