If Landon Powell hadn't played for the Gamecocks fans would revolt for hiring him. We don't need a church league coach.

Pollard and Godwin are the two for me that should get the first call.

I'm seeing the same smoke as the Beamer hire. Players and former players advocating for Monte...same as Beamer

It's frustrating in this case because it is guys who are never going to step on campus and guys who are going to the draft. The only one we really lose is Petry if we don't hire Monte. Neither Messina are going to be here next year, nor PJ.

Elander is the way to go

Which should largely be ignored. The whole idea of a new coach is to reset and let him bring his own guys in. Why hire a guy to keep a bunch of players that can barely make it to the regionals and bomb out immediately?

also am I crazy to think that if the word is that this search will conclude fairly quickly (within 2 weeks) that would mean that Elander is out since UT will be playing for longer than that (most likely)

We often see assistants in college football accept a head coach position but stay with the team until after the bowl game, if it's a playoff game, but since Tanner is most likely hiring Monte then I doubt it matters.

Please little tiny baby Jesus let me be wrong.

CLiff Godwin...Ecu
Jack Leggett WCU > Keith Leclair WCU/ECU - Cliff Godwin ECU -

there's the lineage that nobody's talking about when it comes to Godwin - and Keith Leclair was a staunch Jacklegg guy up until ALS took his life too soon - if Gamecock fans are ready for a HC to be friendly and accepting of the nastiest a-hole in the opposing dugout to ever coach in the USC/CU series - by all means hire Godwin -

as for Lee - he was a victim of another Jacklegg coup - to be reinstalled with a coach he wanted at CU - Radakovich leaving for UMiami opened the door for Neff to get over-run by the Jacklegg loyalists who were pissed Radakovich fired JL to begin with - you never saw JL in Monte's dugout - but you see where he sits now every game next to his proxy gnome -

Monte's bad season in 2021 coincided with Radakovich's decision to get out of the cult and head to SFla - it all came together so conveniently when a 35-23/13-16 CU team was left out of the NCAAT in 2022 - Lee was never really accepted into their orange world by the die-hard JL loyalist boosters -

https://www.thestate.com/sports/college/acc/clemson-university/article262595807.html

quote:

I was really intentional about it,” Neff said Thursday after Clemson formally introduced Erik Bakich as its new head baseball coach.

“I went to see Coach early, with the recognition of his legacy of his time and his players. I just felt like it needed some stitching back together.” Leggett was hurt by the way his time at Clemson came to a sudden end after 22 years on the job in 2015.

After leading the Clemson program to six College World Series appearances and 955 wins, he was let go by former athletic director Dan Radakovich.

The divorce was a bad one. Leggett stopped coming to games and really never had a relationship with Lee or the baseball program.

so everyone who's dumping on Monte because he 'failed' or was 'fired' at the shithole upstate school can do so - but do it knowing what Lee was dealing with for his time there and once Radakovich was gone - he was a sitting duck for the orangeneck iptay boosters who never wanted him there -

FTR - I want McDonnell and all of his CWS/Omaha trips to be the next HC at Carolina - but if it can't be him - I'm okay with Monte and the NIL commitments that are supposedly lining up from Gamecock boosters -

lasty - Eric Backitch has 4 wins the NCAAT in his time at Clemhole - over a 4 seed David Lipscomb U in 2023 before getting bounced by UNC CHARLOTTE - not Tennessee - and 1 win over 4 seed High Point and 2 over 3 seed Coastal Carolina in 2024 -

bottom line - Mark Kingston is gone - 2 seasons too late - but gone - Carolina baseball will better off in seasons ahead for that alone -

okay but...he still didnt make it out of a regional in the previous years at Clemson.

As for this season, we all know he was our hitting coach. We were absolutely abysmal at hitting with RISP. We struck out too much (both years), and if not for moose and Petry we would have really struggled offensively. Most of our hitters regressed in year two.

Elander imo is the right guy. He comes from a fiery UT program, that he helped recruit. If there is anyone to amp up the hate with Clemson, and take that series personally, it is him

that's the hangup along with his firing at CU - and the optics involved - compare Lee's first 4 seasons at CU to the last 5 of Leggett and the improvement is clear - Lee's 47 wins in 2018 was the most that program had since 2006 - Leggett didn't make it out of a regional in 5 seasons prior to Lee either - 1 as a host twice as a 2 seed and twice as a 3 seed in that order - Lee won 44-42-47-35 in the 4 seasons following Leggett's 35-40-36-32 preceding Lee -

Lee's biggest mistake at CU was he wasn't "CU" - and even if he'd made the NCAAT in his final season with 35 wins under Neff he would've been replaced as Radakovich wasn't there to protect him from the Leggett loyalists - Lee's 25-27 finish before Radakovich left CU the summer after let the JL loyalist inmates take over that asylum and force Neff's hand -

as for Lee's hitting stats back at USC - the HRs and overall success at the plate outside of Ks were a big improvement in 2023 from anything we'd seen under MK in his time at USC - the surprise Holcomb hiring by MK that happened July 2023 before Lee had made a decision about the Cincinnati U job is what forced the "co-hitting coach" dynamic we saw this season which failed terribly - it also forced Wingo out in the shitty manner MK handled it all - Lee had a positive impact year 1 - but as we became accustom to knowing about a MK program overall - everyone regresses after a first season in it - including Lee -

Elander's an unknown - but an unknown I'd rather take a chance with than knowns Godwin - Pollard - and especially Walter - Elander will have to put a staff together that'll be able to capitalize on the Leggett regime ignoring SC talent once again - in favor of Northern players -

This I 100% agree with. his big "if" is putting together a staff.
