And I go back to my original premise - it will result in lesser teams winning the championship... teams that do not belong to a brutal conference and conference schedule - and according to you - "them's the breaks"
This is not a good argument against the playoffs. Every sport has a structured playoff system except for FBS. That not the way it is because of some idea of parity and fairness in competition. Why does every other sport in every other level have to manage injuries while enduring a tough schedule? And yeah. “Them’s the breaks.” Sometimes the best teams lose. Sometimes things aren’t fair. That’s a great life lesson which is what amateur sports is supposed to be teaching along the way, but again, we said frick that for money and glamor.

The parity in NFL makes your submission/argument much more viable. A team like UCF that plays almost zero competition has an undeniable edge when compared to any of the 16 (and possible 18) teams in the SEC. I just don't understand how you can keep insisting that it is the same and a benefit to the sport. But hey, we disagree

It is fine to disagree - but you cannot tell me that teams like UCF and their ilk will not benefit from playing lightweights through the season - being included in the finals -when teams from the SEC are brutalizing each other through the season
UCF is a part of the FBS. They deserve a chance to compete just as much as anyone else. The same way some no name high school gets to face a 5A juggernaut in the playoffs on the way to state.

Maybe - but they have to there games to become champs. Two of those will most likely involve the Big 10 and SEC

And I will also add - while the administrators are seeing the potential windfall of adding more games, I bet you a dollar to a donut that viewership will suffer when teams that shouldn't win DO because of an unfair scheduling advantage. My 2 cents
ETA - which was why Coach Saban argued against a 9 team SEC schedule - without other conferences doing the same, the SEC is at a disadvantage. There is no way you can tell me that an 11-1 UCF should go in before a 9-3 LSU

That is certainly possible. But on the other hand, everyone loves the underdog.

UCF is in the Big 12 now. But I know your point. If a team from a perceived weaker conference gets in over LSU, there’s not much I can do. I may not like it, but the schedule is the schedule until it changes.
I don’t know if they’ll do it, but the only way to make it truly fair is to create another division of CFB, where you have just the power 5 competing for the playoffs.

Likewise.
I also think there should be a reduction of scholarships. As it stands right now, teams can stack their rosters with talent and throw them out as needed. You decrease scholarships from 85 to 70, all of a sudden coaches now have to actually develop players from their fundamentals. The talent will trickle down to the smaller schools creating more parity. And it will also help with the whole NIL thing because the bigger teams won’t be able to hold 10 roster spots so they can fill them with transfers. They have to be more selective with who they bring on. Thus, letting the smaller schools get some more talent and increasing their ability to compete.

Can you imagine beating Auburn twice in a season?

You lost me here. How does a playoff not help determine a proper champion?
I'm not referring to a playoff, I'm referring to a 12 team playoff.
If you are only ranked 12thk, 11th, 10th, etc.. after 12 regular season games plus conf championship weekend, you simply do not deserve to be national champion. Period. End of story.

You’re going to need more than 85 scholarships.

NFL does it 53.

Maybe. That’s why we’re going to let them decide it on the field. Arbitrarily rewarding teams based on opinion was never a good system.

If not for noise factor.
Which it used to be disallowed
Bama don't lose to lsu tn in 22
Then it's ga bama in natty not tcu in a 12 team playoff

I don't know.
Perhaps it's because I'm old and I'm used to looking at CFB through the older prism that lacks NIL but a 12 team playoff is, I think, too much. I think the higher seeded teams will run roughshod through the lower ones and they won't be much by way of exciting games. And maybe this is where NIL comes into play and levels the playing field? The top 20, top 25 are all going to be programs that are well versed and have the means to really excel in NIL spending.
Maybe I'm wrong, I hope so. Good college football games are always the best.

I mean what do you call the first 13 games of the season? That is literally playing it out on the field.

So what are the 17 games in the NFL regular season? Or the 82 in the NBA? Or the 162 in the MLB? Or any other regular season in any level of any sport?
