There is a reason why UTK's most memorable OOC win in recent times was in a game sponsored by a truck stop at a NASCAR track.

Is this a thread where Georgia fans brag and pretend that GT is a real opponent?

Alabama plays:
Mercer
South Florida
Wisconsin
Western Kentucky
Wisconsin managed a 7-6 record last season.
Georgia Tech finished with a 7-6 record last season.

This might be a subject Alabama fans want to sit out.

I see everyone shitting on Tech because we struggle against UGA, but hell nobody outside of Bama has had much success against them since 2016 (Kirby’s first season). Looking at you Auburn, Tenn, and Florida.

Makes it even more dumb for a vol fan to trash the techies

Using GT’s time in the SEC from decades ago to prop up your OOC cupcake is disingenuous, Murph. You’re better than that.
I don't have to be better than that.

If Tech is such an unworthy OOC opponent, why does Alabama continually try to schedule them?

And on a side note, props to Tech for regularly scheduling a tough 2nd OOC opponent as well.

No one outside of Atlanta or Auburn/Knoxville/Tuscaloosa/Oxford cares about those games.

Playing GT is, for the most part, a rent a win game for UGA. There are years where this is not the case but for the most part GT is pretty horrid. They are on the come though...and could be really good if they decided to be. They probably won't but they have potential....

Safe to assume you think the vols are also pretty horrid.

It's not a rent a win. We do not pay Tech anything.

Last 20 games vs UGA:
GTU- 3 wins
Auburn- 4 wins
UTK- 6 wins

UGA has played these teams every year for a long time, with the exception of 2020. I wonder how many of the people bitching about UGA playing GTU are also complaining about what CFB has become over the last 12 years with conference realignment and storied rivalries ending.

I wish Bedlam, the Apple Cup, Civil War, NU-OU, and the Border War were still played annually, and I really don't give a shite about any of those teams involved.

UTK hasn't played its in-state rival since 2010, and with some of the teams Tiger High has fielded since then and UTK's on field performance, I'm certain Memphis would have gotten a few wins if they were to have played.

Another thing too: I don't really care if Tennessee were to play its premier OOC game in Nashville or Charlotte. If there is a quality stadium to support a 50/50 ticket split and it is against a quality opponent, then cool. I think home and homes are better, but we are whores to the TV networks now, and if they want a game between Florida and NC State in Orlando or Tampa as part of a kick-off classic then the teams will oblige.

Bama plays South Florida this year (not counting Wisconsin, who is their strongest OOC opponent).

Georgia Tech has played South Florida 2 times (back to back in 07 and 08).

the series tied 1-1.
2007 - GT won 14-10
2008 - USF won 49-38.

2008:

GTU 21
Clemson 17

And UGA had the balls to play a 2nd p5 team in 2008, as usual. Most sec teams don’t.

They do. And they'll be wishing they scheduled Florida Coastal School of Law after they come up short vs. FSU for their 5th win of the year.

The difference between UGA and UF is that while both renewed long sleeping rivalries when the NCAA went to 12 regular season football games (UGA with Clemson and UF with Miami), UGA largely kept playing additional P5 opponents in most seasons, UF largely went back to just playing FSU every year.

Since 2006, UF has played FSU every year, Miami three times, Utah twice, UCF once as a P5 team and Michigan once.

Since 2006 UGA has played GT every year, Colorado twice, Oklahoma State twice, Arizona State twice, Clemson three times, UNC once, Notre Dame twice and Oregon once.

UGA's been much more aggressive about adding additional OOC games aside from their yearly rival. Granted FSU is better than GT, so that's part of it.

Going forward UF is being a lot more aggressive OOC. They probably have the second best slate of planned future games behind UGA right now and will be ahead of UGA in some seasons. They were slow to start that scheduling philosophy though.

Will Miami/FSU be better than Clemson/GT next year? Too early to tell. GT and Miami had the same overall record with GT having a superior conference record to Miami. But FSU was better than Clemson last year. But it wouldn't shock anyone if Clemson were better than FSU this upcoming season.

People seem to forget that right now GT and Miami are on par with each other.
