Hey, it's the off-season. Topics are slim pickins.

Perkins did stay all 3 years so this is a dumb hypothetical. The money aspect isn't the only part of roster retention but over paying average players is definitely a recipe for disaster.

I suppose no one can refute you until the teams that overpay, win a lot.
And it doesn’t have to be “overpay”. It can be teams that have their ducks in a row for NIL.

The HP hypothetical is not dumb. I just picked a name. But to ease your feels, it could be anyone. It could be key members of the offense steamrolling the other defenses that are tired of producing, while we failed to add our missing piece on the Dline.

Just asking, you think that helps the locker room?

Hey, it's the off-season from a fluke football season with an easy schedule and we’re terrible at everything else. Topics are slim pickins.

Not really, seeing as how we won't play you for at least a few years. It is fun to rile you baws up though.

you guys obviously have it for coaches, so why not players? I

Incorrect. The TAF pays coaches. They are not allowed to pay players. The pools of money are completely separate.

Yeah, he's a big part of my point for sure, which is: Why does LSU overpay for coaches and not players?

This whole ordeal is what will separate the good coaches from the great coaches in this era. Handling payroll and team culture. Someone with an NFL background probably has a head start. If you can't keep role players happy, your depth will suffer. When depth suffers, you lose in the SEC.

Which favors the young at heart. Old school head coaches are still railing over this version of NIL. I don't know many guys who want to keep re-recruiting players and counting heads after every practice.

I grew up going to horse auctions with my dad. It was a lot more fun bidding on the equine.

Because LSU can.

LSU absolutely pays players. We just aren't going to spend 1.5 million on an above average DT who might play for one season and just wants money. Thank god.

Come on baw, "allowed" is such an outdated term in CFB.

I'm sure there are some accountants on here that could probably think of ways to make your money more transferrable and fluid.

I agree with you. Overpaying is bad. Why was it good when you did it for BB? Maybe he will get your defense in the top 20 in a few years, but does that mean he should be the highest paid coach out there?

You are standing on such a straw man argument. Show me a single example of ANY player at ANY university being upset at how much the coaches make.

Paying a coach that kind of money is obviously different. I'm not sure why you are having so much trouble grasping that.

Translation: "We couldn't cough up the scratch".

I watched that clip. Brian Kelly's full 'a shite and everyone knows it. All this frickin' bullshite about selling culture and relationships and whatever the frick else is car lot blabbering. Everybody says that shite.

Kelly would've been better off simply saying that he struck out in the portal because he couldn't find a good fit.

The good news? With LSU's schedule, they might hit 9 and 3 again.
