History, for the most part. I’m surprised they’ve done as well as that have this year in both football and basketball.

Not much in-state talent.
Geographically isolated.
They are smart to put their money on basketball.

Because it is in Arkansas. Great place to visit. But I wouldn't want to live there.

Wal-Mart, Jerry Jones, Fed-Ex.
Walmart gives corporate sponsorships and academics but nothing really in sports. The heirs just care about art and bike trails.
Jerry Jones' contributions have been down a lot after the Chad Morris debacle. Supposedly he chose him and had to foot the bill for his buyout. Thag pissed him off.
Fed Ex was supposed to be built in Little Rock. Fred Smith is from Arkansas, but Memphis gave him what he needed so he moved the Co. there.
The names that actually give a lot to Ark sports are Tyson, Hunt, Stephens, and Frank Fletcher.
Frank Broyles was very good at getting $$ out of almost everyone. Hunter Yurachek is not.
John Tyson basically forced/walked Hunter to Cal and told him not to frick it up.
The state has a rich hoops tradition and produces real talent in state, unlike football, which has cratered over the last 15-20 yrs in state. All the best athletes now play bball.
