Honest question for Kentucky fans(except for Mike, apparently)

What is your complaint about Cal? He recruits like Saban. The difference is that Saban’s players had to stay 3 years before they could go pro. Cal’s are one and dones. They are always learning at the first of the year and usually get rolling by March. The problem is….. the NCAA tournament is a vastly different animal than winning a couple of games in football. What are the expectations? Nobody even consistently gets to the final 4. Do y’all expect sweet 16s every year? I think Cal is a great coach….discuss

Mike will soon hibernate. As soon as round all is through his gaping vaginal secreting arse will slither back to his momma’s teat.

Personally, I expect Kentucky to win the SEC and SECT most years, and at a minimum get to the Sweet 16. There's zero reason Kentucky shouldn't be playing on the 2nd weekend of the tournament pretty much always.
Edit: Cal's performance the past 4 or 5 years has been absolutely atrocious. Fans are tired of the bullshite losses. I mean right now we're 5th in the SEC. That's unfrickingacceptable. Would Alabama fans be OK with their football coach winning 8 games when they should be winning 10+?

The issue with Cal is that he's not a good in game coach. His inability to use a zone defense when needed, his weird substitution patterns and the absolute lack of championships given the talent he has had are frustrating for Kentucky fans. He should have at least 4 titles by now.
The other big issue, is he constantly says he wants to do what's best for the player, while knowing that UK fans want championships here, and don't care about the NBA.
It's a double edged sword with him. You get some great things, like the recruiting and the good PR, and then you get lots of stupid losses and early exits.

Do you mean 4 national titles? I think the main problem with that is the one and dones coupled with the crapshoot that is March Madness makes that virtually impossible. Even Saban wouldn’t have won nearly as many if he had to navigate several rounds of games. Now the SEC titles and SEC tournament titles I can understand your frustration…. It’s just so hard to win anything with mostly high school kids, no matter how good they are. It seems like, if memory serves, his best teams had some older guys on the roster…..
I totally get not caring about the NBA. It would be easier to stomach all the NBA guys if they would have won Nattys at Kentucky first. Great discussion! Nic to see y’all’s reasoning and expectations. Hopefully you guys can win it if we can’t win anything!

Yes. 2012 obviously, but 2011 unexpectedly got to the FF and was the best team, as as 2014, and then of course the 2015 team.
Haven't been in the hunt for 9 years now. That also stings.

Great recruiter and underrated coach for what he does year in and out with new talent. People can jeer and say what they want but coaching/playing with that name on your chest is a whole different animal. He deals with it relatively well.
The constant are unrealistic fans and people like you (no offense) that have attached success with reaching a particular level in the Tournament. While it's the fundamental "goal", it requires far more than skill from players or coaching acumen to advance.
His philanthropic efforts, which go by and large unreported places like here to average people from outside Kentucky, are huge. It goes a long way for me to help quell "expectations" which are always high for our program.

He's done a lot of fundraising for things like folks in Eastern KY needing help, getting money together to help rebuild Western KY where that tornado hit a few years ago, etc.

I totally get where you are coming from but it is SO hard to win 6 games in a row. Since Kentucky last won it the national champs have been:
2013 Louisville
2014 UCONN
2015 Duke
2016 Villanova
2017 North Carolina
2018 Villanova
2019 Virginia
2021 Baylor
2022 Kansas
2023 UCONN
So basically UCONN and Villanova are the only ones to pull off more than one. UCONN did it with 2 different coaches and Jay Wright was the only one to win twice. It's extremely difficult to do it. Kentucky has 3 elite 8's, 2 final 4's with a National Runner-up in that time frame. As a Bama football fan, I know about expectations. I also know that it is SO much harder to maintain success when you get to the top of the mountain. Complacency creeped into the Bama football program a long long time ago. It's human nature. If the team would have been as hungry every year as they were the first few they would have won a couple more. Of course they also played against all-world college QBs. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team.....
