LSU Fans - Question on upcoming roster changes

I was looking at a few press conferences for recruiting today. I ran into a short video mentioning that Brain Kelly is switching a few players offense to defense. What kind of changes are going to happen? Is it mainly converting a few OLs into DTs, or will there be skill players transitioning to the secondary too? I found it interesting. Is it just temporary until Kelly gets more bodies in?

Mostly this. We are thin on DT. I think we try and make a big move for DTs in the Spring portal, and then go from there.

Was the DL guy who transferred to Colorado good? I didn’t understand why he left when the LSU DL was going to have playing time open this upcoming year.

He’s more edge, DT is where the the help is needed.

Yup, could be a legitimate achilles heel next year, but if they snag a big guy in the spring… suddenly we become the problem lol.
Don’t expect the offense to drop off much & defense will almost assuredly be better. But yea I think everyone is aware at this point we are in need of bodies at DT.

Are you a dumbass? Haha. If skill players were transitioning over to the secondary he would’ve said that too. Get the dicks out of your ears and listen.

We're thin at NT and DT. There are a couple massive DE's that may switch and Kelly mentioned that some OL may change.
I still think we add 2-3 there after spring.

Our secondary is our question mark. That’s going to be the biggest need for improvement part of our defense. At DT, we have bodies, but after losing Nolen to transfer and M Jackson to the draft, we are going to be inexperienced. Good thing we have spring and fall practices before then, but new starters practically.

Probably part of the reason Bussey picked Aggie.
We've got bodies in the secondary, we just need a starting 5 to step up and step out.
I'm not super worried about our front 3. Either they're gonna find the pieces they need in spring or they'll portal the best they can get. We'll probably spend most of the season in a 3-3-5 or 3-4-4 anyway.

National Recruiting Day and this is the most recruiting talk today on tRant.
damn it, I wanted to talk ball until this basketball starts.
Nice of you not to mention Bussey
I’ll give you the pulse over here.
We’re pretty stoked about the coaching staff & this offseason in terms of firings, hirings, and retentions. Top 3 recruiting class in ‘24, ‘25 #1 overall potential — looking like good years for the state in general in terms of talent.
Anxious to get back to nasty defense but cautiously optimistic basically since 2020 (feels bad man).
It will probably take more than a year to turn it around completely, retaining staff is important.
Best case scenario for ‘24, offense is good enough to win it all with a top 60 defense & we field a top 60 defense.
Worst case scenario, offense looks like last year but defense falls flat again. Sloan or Hankton get offered an NFL job just in time for the defense to really come together in 25.
Again, can’t really stress it enough: whether or not we can maintain consistency on this staff (at least 3 years with Sloan & Baker, probably also Davis/Peoples) will determine whether Kelly goes on a multi-natty run at LSU vs HC with 0 career natties.

Elmo will coach em up. His D at Duke was shockingly good for the personnel they had.

The biggest completion will be for CB1 and CB2 spots. That’s the competition I’m looking forward to in the spring.

Prepare to be letdown. We don't have the WR threats of last season and no RB has proven to be an elite star just yet. Nuss will take some lumps in first season as QB1. Defense will be improved but probably average at best. I look for a rough 2024 season before a return to form in 2025.

I’m cautious optimistic as well. I expect our secondary to improve, I just don’t expect them to be elite out the gate and sustain that. That’s the hope tho.

I’m not expecting a Heisman QB, but Nuss can sling it & we definitely have WRs (Lacy should have a breakout year). Not that the rest of the room isn’t crazy talented, but I have seen enough out of Jackson (RB) to know he is that dude. If he knows the protections & gets his carries, he will be explosive in 2024.
All this without mentioning the fact OL is looking strong as ever. At the very least, the offense has a high floor. Honestly the only negative scenario I can imagine on that side of the ball is if Nuss racks up too many INTs.
We will be an aggressive offense.

Nuss isn’t as mobile as Daniels. Last year, Daniels was elite at eluding, buying time with his feet, and he was fast. Nuss is a pocket passer who can probably buy time with his feet. That’s imo, not a dig at Nuss.

That’s accurate. I will miss seeing Daniels glide, but part of me is excited to see a bruiser back in the backfield.
I am by no means complaining about the suddenly awesome QB play at LSU, but it feels like Keiland Williams (ETA: Darrius Guice is actually who I was thinking of) was the last back we had who could run over you AND then house it
No shade at CEH, great back but not that mold. Watch out for this Kaleb Jackson kid.

Were you asleep when Fournette and Guice were at LSU? Keiland Williams actually went down pretty easily for someone his size.

We are hoping Moffitt can improve our RBs YAC.
