I’m watching an interview with Dan Lanning
Bamas absolutely wanted him and was their first choice
He sad NO!
I understand why they wanted him
Great interview
So bama got their 3rd or 4th choice
Imagine the HC at Oregon
Telling bamas to frick off
tDecline is real

Maybe Lanning was the first choice. But how was there more than that in a 48 hour period? Saban retired on a Wednesday. Byrne was in Seattle the next day with DeBoer. Outside of vetting several candidates, I doubt there was real conversations between more than Lanning and DeBoer in that short of a time period.

Nope.

A lot of coaches know those are beyond big shoes to fill. You have a three loss season and the press will kill you.

Rich Rod also said no to Alabama. He’s coaching Jax State.

Imagine if your third or fourth choice is the guy that just played for a national championship less than a week prior.

Saban hired Lanning

And has something only one other coach in the SEC has. A playoff win.

And Lanning was 0-3 versus DeBoer. Would have loved to have him though. Great coach. But maybe it’s best to go with someone completely unrelated to Saban’s coaching tree.

DeBoer was #1 or #2, timing doesn't really work otherwise.
Maybe the SEC connections with Lanning makes him a bit more "desirable" but DeBoer is equal or better as a coach, in my opinion.

And?
Isn’t it obvious? Our 18th choice is still better than your coach.

I would hope most people can decipher this. Things moved too damn quickly to get beyond a #1 or #2 choice. Byrne was physically in Seattle speaking with DeBoer less than 24 hours after Saban retired.

Saban's retirement was announced 10 days after the loss to Michigan. Common sense dictates that he told Byrne he planned to retire shortly after the game, if not before then. I just don't see a scenario in which he would spring it on Byrne at the last minute without allowing him some time in which to make plans for his replacement. Was Lanning Bama's first choice? I have no idea, but you can bet the wheels were in motion for a replacement before Saban's retirement was announced.

They won’t be able to handle not wining 10 games next year and they’re so blind none of them see it.

Who says Alabama can’t win 10 games in 2024?

It didn’t surprise Byrne. He was hired to eventually make this decision. But Saban didn’t have a final decision until the day of the announcement. He was still working up to letting staff and team know.
