In this world, he meets with the board of regents, boosters and staff to inform them of his impending retirement in 2 years, and says he wants to hire an assistant head coach.

The guy he has selected will be trained on the job for 2 years, Nick will teach him everything he can and turn over more and more duties as time goes on.

Now it's 2024 and Nick retires when he said he would and formally introduces the new head coach, who everyone knows already and has been on the field next to Nick for 2 years. His job? Keep the process rolling.

Nick Saban did alot for LSU and Alabama, but his exits have been pretty bad. How bad did he screw Alabama by dropping the surprise announcement? Yes he screwed LSU but did this guy actually screw Alabama worse?

LSU has won countless titles since he left.

Alabana may never win another football game again. I would not be shocked.
He flat out murdered them

I've said it consistently for the past couple of years..

When he was ready to retire, he should leave during the Summer, right before the season starts. Hand the keys over to the OC or DC or AHC and walk away into the sunset.

It is the Bob Stoops to Lincoln Riley plan.

If he had done that this Summer, then Alabama still probably wins 10+ games and probably still makes the playoffs. Then you are looking at a whole different picture.

If they fall on their face, you dump that interim coach and go find a good coach before signing day. If he succeeds, then you are golden.

This is what he should have done.

He doesn’t give a shite about the program. It does not benefit him to set up a program to succeed without him. He’s the GOAT and wants to stay that way.

It’s pretty clear that’s the case over the last week as he’s watching Bama literally fall back to earth. He’s probably enjoying it.

It wouldn't have mattered. That "guy" isn't Nick Saban.

To further my point, the timing of his departure is about as damaging as possible given the timing of the calendar. He triggered a 30 day transfer window (lol) after all the good players have already found new homes in the portal.

It’ll lead to about a 10 player gap at least that then they have to work post spring to fill.

That doesn’t even account for the recruits that are dropping.

This is hilarious.
