And Saban isn't sick. Why did Saban retire? Is there anyway he lost the locker room?

I think he's tired and has other interests in football outside if coaching. Probably annoyed with have to constantly adapt to off the field changes.

Because he is a perfectionist and 72 years old.
Coach didn't want to hang around not at his best.
All you can do is respect his decision

Guessing this latest round of transfers or threats to transfers pushed him to the point where he said it’s enough.

At some point you are entitled to get old and a little lazy. I think losing staff, not landing hires he wanted, etc just pushed him over edge when he was already 50/50

He’s not lazy, he’s just not physically capable of pulling 14 hour workdays anymore.

This.
Traditional cfb as we knew it, is dead.

He said that it was getting harder to be truthful with hiring assistant coaches and recruits that he was going to be there another 3,4 or 5 years.

Because he didn't want to lie to recruits and tell them he would be here three more years. And it sounded like the grind of the year took a toll more so than the past.

Thats what I meant...

Probably wants to enjoy his retirement before they do start to have health issues.

Because he saw Milroe's last play and it pushed him over the edge.

Because he’s running for president. Nick Saban 2024!
JK, I think he always said that he would coach as long as he knew he was able, but more importantly, as long as he felt he was doing a good job at it and maybe he feels that he’s not what he once was. Regardless of whether or not that is true, he is entitled to feel however he feels. He’s 72. He’s one of the greatest coaches of all time. CFB has changed a lot, and it’s frustrating.

The very reason Saban left the Dolphins to return to college was he knew his talent was recruiting and developing players. He also knew that he couldn’t be successful if he couldn’t have control over his own roster.
The new cfb landscape has erased all of that. He recognized that it’s only getting worse and decided to pull the trigger.

Think about this: Saban is 72 and is arguably the most driven man in America, yet he’s retiring because he knows he’s lost a step coaching a game. Meanwhile we have politicians pushing 80 and beyond who have clearly lost their cognitive abilities running (or want to run) the country.
Sorry to get political. Carry on.

My mom is the same age as Saban. Last month she tried to get into two cars that weren't hers. The first one was the wrong make and color. In a parking lot that I would describe as not super crowded.
