Who would you have hired?

It's not really, who would I have hired, but who would I have gone after...

A) someone that has experience leading a large program with a demanding fanbase
B) someone with experience handling the spot light
C) someone who embraces the new era of recruiting, nil, and portal
D) probably someone in the late 40s to mid 50s... That's the right range of experience for this job.

Deboer doesn't fit those, in my opinion. He's like giving an 18 year old the keys to the Porsche. He doesn't have a and b.

I'd look at large program guys in the NCAA... Wouldn't be opposed to shaking some trees in the NFL ranks.

No one is coming down from the NFL anymore, it's just not worth it with the crazy hours and NFL salaries.

So I once again ask, what coaches are you thinking fit all 5 criteria?

I think DeBoer would be a great hire considering the circumstances of following the GOAT, and how much worse it could be... not to mention maybe we can get him to bring Grubb with him (who Saban originally wanted).

Regarding your criteria:
A.) I'm not too worried about this...
B.) He did it this year
C.) I think with the proper support system (UA) he will be fine in this regard, but time will tell
D.) He's young enough to have longevity if he is successful... and this keep us off the 3-5 year coaching carousel

A) someone that has experience leading a large program with a demanding fanbase

Pac-12 Champion currently working for a University that isn't afraid to can the wrong guy

B) someone with experience handling the spot light

Just coached a playoff win over Texas and led his team to the National Title game

C) someone who embraces the new era of recruiting, nil, and portal

Brought in one of the best QB's and WR's in the country through the portal

D) probably someone in the late 40s to mid 50s... That's the right range of experience for this job.

He's 49

Sounds like you want DeBoer.

The coaches you just described aren't available. They're already at big name successful schools like Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, etc. They're not making a lateral move to come and be compared to the greatest college coach of all time and be found wanting.

Hmmmm. Like Texas? Or FSU? Or Oregon? Every name from every big school had popped up, unless it sounded completely absurd, like Kirby or Harbaugh.

B) someone with experience handling the spot light

Sounds exactly like A. So again, my answers are the same.

C) someone who embraces the new era of recruiting, nil, and portal

frickin' A, no Dabo. See, you aren't completely wrong.

. Alright, 2 in a row. Everyone mentioned except Schumann.

Well, that's just a straight up cop out.
