That 4th & 31 play looms ever larger over the world of college football...

All Auburn had to do was rush three. Instead they rushed two and kept a spy (
) on Milroe when he had 31 yards to complete a pass to the end zone. IF Alabama wins the whole thing this year, it might rank up there as the biggest blunder in the history of the Iron Bowl.

It's amazing that the only difference between bama being considered a championshiip contender and an also-ran is a back-up punt returner's feet sliding out from under him.

In order to win a national championship luck sometimes has to side with you. Look at 1998 Tennessee. All that stood between them and missing a national championship was Clint Stoerner not using the football to balance himself after slipping on some grass.

Take a look at any championship team. Every one of them had a difficult game (or a loss) or two that they needed to overcome.
Give Auburn credit, but I think they were practicing for Alabama even before the NMSt game

We are a 6-6 team, loss to NM State by 21, the worse roster Freeze will ever have. Yes, Auburn should have won the game. Go buy your Daniel Moore painting.

I have seen some hot takes on here but blaming the turf monster for a fumble is a new one

If y’all hit that play against a 6-6 Bama squad and clinched a playoff spot the next week, y’all would already be setting up the 10-year anniversary celebration for that team

They lit Auburn up on PTI yesterday over that defense on 4th down. Just obliterated whoever was responsible for that defensive strategy.
Basically said Auburn caused this FSU clusterfrick.

They still haven’t finished making amends for us all having to put up with a mouthy UCF. And, now this. They’re never going to get out of CFB purgatory.

Here’s another thought from that play. At the time I was cursing the play thinking it gave Texas less avenues to reach the playoff. I knew Bama as a 2 loss team would be out, if they could beat Georgia then, all the better. One of two things would have then happened - Bama would have potentially been just a little less motivated and lost to Georgia - or even if they did win, Georgia might still get strong consideration so they can have an SEC team. Does Texas get in if Georgia gets in? Part of me wants to say we’d get in over FSU, but I lean towards thinking they’d take the 4 undefeated teams, call it a day, and we’re left out to dry. I don’t think they would have created that controversy without the Bama/SEC element, then Texas was brought along with Bama so to speak.
To keep it more short winded, knowing now how all the other games outcome would be, I think it actually assisted us even though at the time it seemed like a bad development.

I know Auburn doesn't know much about winning championships, but every championship team catches a break some time. It's part of it.

It’s a funny thing about football. You win every game on one play. You never know when that’s going to happen.

Just make sure to send Ron Roberts a ring if you win it. He was definitely the most significant contributor to a championship this year.
