A little surprised as well. I guess there's been two #1 vs #2 games in a row won by Bama...2009. Just haven't had to beat two #1s in a row... until now.
Let's don't underestimate Michigan. I'm sure they have that "us against the world" mentality after their cheating scandal.

No qualifier for same season? I would think it would have happened that someone played a bowl game against #1 and started the next season against #1

Alabama could not have ended up in a better position. I think most of us prefer to play Michigan first. If we win and catch Texas in the second game that will be to our advantage. General the loser in a rematch has the advantage. Washington is a little bit of an unknown, but the PAC has not been world beaters since USC's run with Carrol and company.
