So this post is misleading, some might say bull shite.... I think that's what we've learned.

I mean you could carve out chunks of Cobb, Gwinnett, Paulding, Cherokee that are poor, crime riddled and have low performing schools as well. You could do that with almost any area in the country.

I wasn't saying that area was all $2M houses and wine vineyards. My point was that generally that area wasn't desolate and filled with no business and rampant crime (like the area to the South of it). And that part, the desolate crime laden part, is generally what people are talking about when they talk about "Atlanta is a warzone".

When you live in a tiny enclave of nicety in Atlanta, you are the exception. When someone says "ATL is a shithole" and you answer back with "My tiny enclave of nicety is very nice" you present as a moron. I happen to know you are not a moron but I am saying you (and others) present as morons when you make that argument.

Smyrna, on the other hand, and particularly the area around Cumberland and the Galleria, is the most crime ridden part of Cobb County and it ain't close..

Honest question - have you ever driven around Atlanta between 75 and 85 from Midtown to the Chattahoochee (and then extended all the way up to Dunwoody, Roswell, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton into the mountains really)? Chastain, Mt Paran, Glenridge, Sandy Springs, Vinings, West Paces, etc? It's a pretty huge area of "solid to nice". It's not the Baghdad Green Zone.

I don't live in some gated community surrounded by cannibals . I live in a neighborhood with no gates, no HOA, no nothing. Across Peachtree from us is another neighborhood like that. Another then another. And another. And 15 more all the way past 285 to the north and to and then over 400 to the West.

who think that Atlanta is a shite hole and Atlanta is dangerous.

I am likely, at least, among the most traveled within the US and abroad for both leisure and work related travel. Atlanta is a shithole.

When I was young, there seemed a much more clear distinction between the slums and good areas. They are entirely intermixed now. It's not a great place. Every city has it's go and no-go zones, but all of the areas highlighted in the OP could benefit from a major big city approach of street corner cops to lock down the tourist areas.

I will say that my recent trips to ATL were outside of major sports seasons or big events, so maybe the police presence is different at times.

Yeah no it isn’t, stop pedaling bullshite. I’ve been to Atlanta more times than I can count many times by myself and never once felt unsafe or had any problems and I know almost nobody who’s actually had problems in Atlanta. Like any major city it has its places that you’ll want to avoid but as long as you know where the hell you’re going you’ll be fine.

I was born in Piedmont hospital in 1978 and raised in the northern burbs you mentioned. My first job out of UGA was in Dunwoody. I have launched my boat from Azalea Drive on the Chattahoochee. My first real girlfriend went to Mt Paran Christian School. My good friend lives in downtown Roswell. My brookhaven office has a sister office in Alpharetta. Regarding the North Georgia mountains, yes I'm familiar with them. Very little of this has anything to do with Atlanta being or not being a shite hole. You are deflecting.

ETA-

You are Tryon too hard, Duke.

If your point is Downtown Atlanta and the majority of your incircled area sucks and is a shite hole I'm in total agreement.

Twelfth here. And for the record, only one Disney trip. I refused the $80 premium in '93. Seems like a bargain now.

Thank you for conceding. More people should concede when they are wrong.

I will give you a consolation concession- Chamblee HS does indeed appear to be a good high school, I never would have guessed. And for the record, I don't send my kid to public school in Grayson either. Even the "good ones" are bad.

Well you’ve circled SW DeKalb County, Clayton County and parts of West/South Fulton County. Yeah, those areas are shitholes but not much different than what Gwinnett is now either

You don’t even have a clue to what you are pointing out. Clayton County isn’t Atlanta. Neither is South Fulton. It would be like me circling South Cobb and telling you it’s Cobb or circling South Central Gwinnett. Anyone can pick and choose. It’s stupid. You’ve been wrong in just about everything you have posted from schools on down.

Yes! Now you finally get it, grasshopper. You can pick and choose the nice neighborhoods in Atlanta to take a position that Atlanta is not a shite hole. The nice neighborhoods in Atlanta are nice, but they are the exception. Thank you for, again, making my point for me in this thread.
