2003. 4-9 Overall.

Here is the 2003 Bowl Selection Show, the last such show where Alabama was a complete non-factor

Nick Saban prepared to play for his first National Title. The BCS fumbles Oklahoma and USC's rankings... and rest of the show is littered with star names of people who have already retired from the NFL.

The Crimson Tide was under probation and banned from Bowl Season no matter what and scheduled a game with Hawaii after the Iron Bowl, but the ignominy remains. The earthquake of the NCAA hammer and the PR disaster of Mike Price were too much to overcome and a mere 4 wins resulted. Alabama would win a single away game, drop Homecoming to Northern Illinois and lose to Tennessee in 5 overtimes.

Interestingly, Bama finished their ambitious home and home series with #1 Oklahoma, playing the top team tight all they way through and even in defeat, was impressive enough to earn Alabama a ranking after a win over Kentucky. Which would leave the equally mid 2004 season, as the only year between Bear and Saban which the Tide was unranked all year.

Probation is a bitch, unless you are the barn and get TV bans and bowl bans, but few scholly reductions.

That was a tough year. Scheduled an away game to play Hawaii to get some type of bowl experience for the players and lost to freaking Hawaii. Brutal.

2003 Fall was my Senior year at Bama. Most likely the worst 4 year consecutive stretch for Bama football in the modern era. This included the final disastrous year of Dubose, 2 years of Franchione, and the doomed first year of Shula. I have no sympathy for those that matriculated after me since that time.

The university should have refunded your tuition. Brutal 4 year stretch there. Probably came in as a freshman in 2000 pumped...team coming off a SEC championship... preseason #3.

And then...

Agreed it was rough times for sure. Watching losses in that era to Southern Miss, Northern IL and Central FL with the likes of Brandon Avalos and Brandon Miree who everyone swore was next Shaun Alexander and of course the Pancake posse. I still respect the hell of out of Shaud Williams - he was a dog, but would be 4th string in one of Saban's backfields.

97-00 and 00-03 classes both ended with only 24 wins. I fell in the glory years between the 2

I remember those “Bowl or Bust” tee shirts they sold in 2004. And then the Music City Bowl against Minnesota.

One the coldest miserable Bama games I attended. It was at 10 am on New Years Eve and I was highly hungover/still intoxicated to numb some of the pain. Bama has a poor record in that bowl game with the weather and outcome.

I'll never forget the surreal image of Don Shula in Alabama gear while his son was at the helm.

Those poor Minnesota band members breaking into Rocky Top as a violent mob formed around them while they were just thinking they were playing a harmless tribute song to the state of Tennessee.

Thank God for Shaun Alexander and the 1999 SEC championship season... otherwise my time in T-town would have been a total football shiteshow.

Still don't know how Dumbose beat Spurrier's Florida twice in one season. Definitely not a career highlight for the Ol Ball coach lol.

We were banned from post-season competition due to probation so we wouldn't have been bowl eligible even with six wins that year. You have to go back to the year 2000 where Alabama could go to a postseason bowl but failed to do so due to a losing record.
