Why would anyone want to schedule any difficult non-conference games? W-L records trumps the SOS or SOR.
Someone needs to tell Saban and the AD to drop the difficult non-conf games over the next 5 years. Road game to Wisconsin next year is stupid. Playing Florida State after that is stupid. Making the playoffs is most important than a regular season game just to bring in more ad revenue.
Even with a 12 team playoff, 3 loses will absolutely eliminate you. Then the review will be for the best of the 2 loss teams to fill out the bracket.

Also if you switched Texas for Mercer this year, we are ranked 4th.

Like how UGA was bailed out by avoiding a good Oklahoma this year. Alabama has a brutal 2024 regular season as well.

2024 is an absolutely brutal schedule.
Evan a great Alabama team could go 10-2 or 9-3 with that schedule. And still be one of the best teams in the country and miss the 12 team playoff.

If GA has Oklahoma in week2 with the way they were playing at that time, they likely have a loss.

SEC game dates have not been set yet. They are all TBD. So the 2024 schedule does not end that way.

Which would still kinda leave us in the you must win out and the sec championship game

Yes, but you are for sure in with no doubt. No questions asked.
Now, we win out and there are clearly scenarios where the sec gets left out.

A 3 loss team doesn't belong in a 12 team playoff....period!

If Bama wins out they're in.
Bama would be 12-1 with a 11 game winning streak and would have just beaten the 2 time national champion on a neutral field. Zero chance the committee leaves Bama out in that scenario. Zero.

At first I was 100% confident but now that I think about it I think you’re right. If Georgia is undefeated and we beat them in the championship, there is no denying it.

I agree, OP. It's a farce. If we have Michigan or UGA's schedule we'd be a top 4 team suddenly with the exact same roster. Weird how that works. Same thing last year. We were the better team than TCU but only records matter.
ESPN gets to benefit from mega ratings when we go out and schedule a Texas yet we get no credit it for it when it comes to resume. Replace that game with another bum team and suddenly we're "elite".
Oregon gets way too much love. They get credit for losing to Washington and their only good win is last week at Utah. Bama's resume is way more impressive yet we get zero credit.
Luckily it'll all work itself out. After LSU(assuming we win) our schedule lightens up on paper and Michigan/Georgia have to start beating actual competition.

You are not what your record says you are. College does not have NFL type schedules. A 3 loss team could most certainly belong in a 12 team playoff. But your way of thinking is what has permeated the playoff committee sadly.

Numerous wildcard teams have won the Superbowl.

6 times in 45 years. Crazy that it happened three times in a short window.
Oakland Raiders (1980)
Denver Broncos (1997)
Baltimore Ravens (2000)
Pittsburgh Steelers (2005)
New York Giants (2007)
Green Bay Packers (2010)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2020)
The #1 seed has won the Superbowl 14 times. And that goes back before the introduction of the Wildcard.
6 out of 45 is a shockingly good success rate for what are considered fringe teams. College is becoming more like the NFL and teams that have won the Superbowl from low seeds typically have dealt with guys getting injured early in the season or hitting their stride late in the season. In an extended playoff format, especially with the length of the NFL season, the most important thing is which team is the most healthy going into the playoff. Injuries are a huge factor, 2021 should be evidence for that for us.

Big part of why the NFL regular season is boring and pointless to watch.

Good. Barring injury at a key position, a playoff-caliber team shouldn't lose three games.

I've felt this way my entire life and been called "scared" because of it. Very, very rarely will playing a hard game opposed to an easy one be a trump card to get you into the playoffs or not. First and foremost is winning, period. The goal of the season is to win as many games as possible, so what logical sense does it make to make things harder on yourself in accomplishing that? Especially playing in the SEC when you've got 8 conference games plus a potential SECCG matchup, that in itself is typically going to be good enough regarding any kind of schedule talk.

Happened all the time before the playoffs. Now that we're going to the NFL lite model, there won't be much reason to watch the regular season. Rivalries are going away. Losses aren't as critical. And cupcakes will be scheduled.
I'll be retiring with Saban.
