What is the point of all this? Well, the point is that people like to point and laugh at tennessee by saying "1998" but they seem to be referencing their natty drought, which against isn't really that big of a deal. But 25 years without even a conference title is a whole nother story. So from now on when you reference 1998 and spread 1998 joy, let's remember the true meaning of 1998. Something tells me we'll get to enjoy it for quite a while.
They've gone so long w/o a conference title that Georgia has passed them for 2nd in the number of SEC titles(15).

quote:First off, Tech isn't in the conference anymore. You are basically saying a program like Miami is a major program in the AAC, the successor to the old Big East.
Florida is closer to Georgia Tech in all time wins, and SEC titles and has fewer natties than Tech...if Florida is in the big 6 (they are not by any meaningful measure) Georgia Tech should still be in the big 6..
Second, that deep of a historical reference has no weight on the current state of the program. In what I'd consider the modern era of CFB - since NCAA v. Oklahoma SCOTUS case that completely changed how we consume football - Tech has half of a national championship. Even if they had that claim while they were in the SEC, that would put them below Tennessee and their half of a natty was 8 years before Tennessee's national championship.

Former #2 SEC program Tennessee has gone 25 years and counting without winning the SEC with no signs of stopping. We could potentially see this stretch to a record that may never be broken by another big 6er.
but their fans will sit here and tell you they are historically better than both UGA & LSU.
they have 2 legit titles, yet try to claim all kinds of BS to make themselves feel better
then the older bama fans will side with UT and shout at LSU & UGA that there was football played before 2000 etc
UT is #5 in the sec imo but they have an arguement for #4....but they certainly have zero arguement for 2 or 3.

The better streak is it's been 16 years since the Vols even won a share of the East.

The "Big 6" needs to he rethought, IMO.
If a program hasn't made it to Atlanta since the SEC's last expansion, it isn't a Big 6 program.
Nah, let's just make it the Big 4 that have won the SEC since expansion and call it a day.

Mizzou does deserve more credit than they have gotten. I still forget they are in the conference sometimes, but they perform well, especially compared to the expansion teams

And LSU is right on their heels with 12 to their 13.
No wonder they hang on to that 40-13 win from a year ago so much. It's literally all they have.

I would concede Auburn has had a tough row to hoe in their schedule historically. And you should cash that acknowledgment check from a UGA fan before I back peddle and it bounces.

Florida carried the reputation of the league in the 90’s and 2000’s when a lot of SEC programs couldn’t stop stepping on their junk. Including us.
