I feel like this is its own category, the stop-gap/glorified interim coach. Shula, Pittman, Matt Luke, Arnett, fit this mold, and truthfully probably Derek Dooley, where like you said not be great but just to keep from totally bottoming out at the time bc no one of note was going to touch you.

Agreed. That's why Matt Luke wouldn't be on my list. He was not positioned to win many games at Ole Miss and he kept the job attractive enough for the next guy.
