Why do a lot of people think Milroe

threw the ball to the wide receiver in an attempt to beat a potential review call? If that's the case, he'd just take a knee! I'm almost 100% certain he threw over there because the receiver was completely uncovered....I haven't went back and watched that exact play, has anyone else?
Also, why did the clock stop when Bama sacked the qb around the 2:00 minute mark there at the end?

That's on him. Bad clock management. During the sideline shot he tells Saban "my bad" after the play.

He shouldn't even had the option to throw it.

He was obviously thinking it was a free TD / big yards. I think he 2nd guessed himself mid throw.

I don't see the point of trying to beat the review. Our opponents can get away with that gamesmanship but any time we try to do it the booth stops the game as a gut reaction because worst case is Alabama actually got the play. Seriously, I can't remember the last time we've gotten away with that maneuver.
The sideline should've done whatever kill they needed to do to get the offense to huddle and do a personnel change into the kill the clock/victory formation.

It was a mistake but if he threw the ball accurately it would have been ggs. Benson was uncovered. Still wasn’t worth it whatever the reason was.

Whether he completed the pass or not i dont think Saban would've been pleased

Honestly I'm surprised they didn't review it....I mean they had to slow it down for me to see his knee was back off the ground...lol

Should have been in the victory formation.

Which would explain that skipping-the-rock-across-the-pond throw

I was wondering about the clock too

That's the first thought I had. That he pulled the string on it in the middle of his throw. Probably had a mental picture of a pic six flashing in his mind.

This is even worse
I can understand the panic decision, but surely he didn't calculate that shite out and come up with throwing it

I think both can be true. I don’t think he was being selfish trying to pad the stats. Just a boneheaded play

He was thinking he needed to run a play asap to prevent a review. Correct in his thinking to a degree. Mental lapse due to inexperience. Like someone said, I think he caught himself mid-throw and realized he did the right thing in the wrong way. Quick snap, but just take the knee. If he had thrown a pick six there, Saban joins the Cristabol hall of coaching shame today.

If anyone can throw a pick 6 to an UNCOVERED receiver I guess it's us...lol

Yep, he saw free yards and then tried to stop himself mid throw. It's cool. We still won.

The McClellan play ends with the clock stopped at 1:50 to reset the chains. During which CBS shows a slow motion replay of the play that lasts 13 seconds. When it returns to the live shot, the clock is at 1:45 and the players in the frame are walking into position pretty casually. Set at 1:41, ball snapped at 1:39 with 18 seconds on the play clock.
Assuming a second or so for human reaction time start/stop the clock plus another few seconds to speak the play into Milroe's ear, I calculate 8-10 seconds regardless of review for Rees to recognize time and score and say kneel on it with the play clock under 3. There's no conceivable reason to look at the play sheet.
The inexplicable part is Rees called a play. Everybody in the box fires off the ball. For that play call, which looked like some kind of RPO, Milroe has an automatic to throw it outside if there's free money over there. Now, there's an implied value that you don't do it if you have the game wrapped up. So I'm splitting the blame pie 70 Rees 30 Milroe. Maybe 60/40.

I wondered the same at first, then realized it was because Jimbo called his last timeout. Gary and Brad just cut directly to commercial and didn't mention it that time.
