.. the first play .. a 75 yard TD pass to Bowers or flea-flicker for a TD (Miss. St game '17). It's unlikely, but that would
be a heck of a start. Probably be Edwards up the middle for a 4 yard gain.

Because flea flickers are high % plays and 2nd and 10 is better than 2nd and 6?

Tickeration to come out against Kentucky, at home, at night, with the crowd the loudest to start a home game in years??? I think we should come out and try to establish the run against a defensive front that thinks they can handle our OL. I think our OL needs to come out on the first play and push their shite back 5 yards and set the tone. But that's just me

If we are on offense, shouldn’t it be quiet enough?

Obviously a 75 yard strike would hype me up the most, but since that's a low % play, I live for an opening play physicality statement. Open the hole and let a back run through a motherfricker's chest.

I'd love to see a downfield shot on the first play. Give Beck days to prepare for that first play, knowing he's going to open with a deep ball. Great opportunity to not only let him think through how that throw is going to go but also open the game with a bang. Even if it doesn't hit, it sends a statement to UK and the crowd that we aren't dicking around.

I can see the game thread now when we take a deep shot on a flea flicker and it’s picked….

“WTF is Bobo doing calling that shite against Kentucky at home?!?!? Why the hell can’t we just run the ball to setup our offense. Instead, we give them the ball and piss off the crowd. Fire Bobo at halftime”

Almost a certainty that if we could get up early on some long plays they couldn't keep up with us running the ball. I look for them to have some success running the ball, but it's almost impossible to come back from very far behind running.

If you listen to what our Head Coach says. The one who won us 2 Natties and had us in OT for a 3rd, in his relatively short time here, you will note he values possessions. He values field position. This is not to say he won’t want us to take a shot on a low % play if the coaches see something, but he would rather get first downs, by stretching the field vertically, creating mismatches and disruption in the opposing defenses scheme. This philosophy is cumulative. It builds on itself as the game progresses. The same play that is a 2 yard run becomes a 9 yard run. A receiver screen that gets 3 yards becomes 15 yards. A 10 yard dig route becomes a 40 yard catch and run. It is a patient, methodical strategy that exploits depth.
For whatever reason, it is not sexy enough for a lot of fans that want to see 30 yard passes every play. If defenses do not respect your ability to pass over them, that is one thing, but look at the safeties on most plays against us. They are not tight. Why throw into them when you can grind it under them and get first downs?

Kirby has a heavy emphasis on explosive plays.

Runs over 12 yards.
Pass over 20 (pass maybe over 15. I don't remember).

When you are winning like Kirby is winning, you emphasize a ton of things (probably something different in each meeting room. Striking/shedding. Finishing tackles. Swarming to the ball).

I have heard him twice this year tell the press room that analytics show that explosive plays have a bigger impact on winning than the turnover margin. That doesn't mean you throw it downfield on every play like Techmo Bowl with Joe Montana to Jerry Rice. But we know he's going to try to hit those explosives often. Additionally, on defense, he's trying to prevent the explosive plays which could explain why they 'look softer" than in years past. This is all speculation on observations on my part.

Explosive plays can be a well blocked dive and a RB that makes someone miss. It can be a well blocked WR screen with a ball carrier that gets upfield and makes a player or two miss. I feel like thats what he wants. High % plays that explode into next level.
