Does anyone know how Luckie is getting along? David Pollack raves about Luckie. The team needs better number two tight end performance.

Can't remember which podcast it was, but apparently he is now good to go.

Last year we had a mauling blocker TE in darnell which allowed Brock to mostly catch. Now Brock is having to do both since delp can't block for shite.
I think/hope that once we get luckie healthy he can take on that blocking role which will open things up for everyone else.

Yeah Delp didn’t have a good game. Watched the BA tape and on the throw by Beck, it really wasn’t bad. And Delp made zero adjustment to the ball. Plus the fumble and the questionable blocking.

Was close to playing last week. Think he plays this week.

The Freshman TE from Florida was great in HS Spurling. How is he coming along?

Pass pro has been solid.
Run blocking has been more miss than hit.
I see a good run block and get excited. Then 2 fails follow it up. He's still an underclassman. The hope is that he is complete next season as a blocker.

Delp sucks arse at blocking
It seems as though Darnell cleaned up a lot of our mistakes last year and now we see just how much

My main memory of the Luckie triplets is them stomping on the Tennessee T at midfield before the game and then we got destroyed. Terrible decade!

Smart on Luckie and Spurlin:
quote:
Yeah, they’re cleared. They’re not where they need to be physically or mentally to play SEC play. They’re trying to get there. But guys, this is a grown man sport. To put a true freshman out there just because you guys had him as a four or five-star, that doesn’t mean he’s ready.

Yep. Bowers was the exception. He was a grown man from day one. Those types truly are "unicorns."

This thread is exactly why we need to quit running bunch sets and 2 tight end sets so often. When everybody’s in the box, everybody has to make their block or the play gets blown up. Spread it out and you’re relying just on the OL. I think Delp is actually an OK blocker but we consistently try to have him make Darnell blocks. That’s not fair to him or our team. This year’s team is better served being a run off the pass team than vice versa. Did y’all notice half the time Auburn played the run like we do? With the safeties still high and light box because they knew we couldn’t run right at them. WE should simply embrace that fact and adjust accordingly. Eventually we’ll get a little better and can run like we want but not by forcing it.

Pretty sure that's exactly what we've become in each second half due to run-first not working in the first halves. Not sure we've learned Monken's cardinal rule: take what the defense gives you. Seems we are just hell bent and determined to prove run-first works the entire first half. Maybe that's not just my perception and I'm wrong.

If you look at the stats we don’t run the ball a lot more than we pass on first down. The cumulative affect of running the ball and getting first downs in the game is kinda the core of Smarts philosophy.

People see results and ignore how we got there.
