If it's officially a thread to talk about our uniforms, I'll say that my only gripe with our uniforms is the white helmet stripe and white facemask. Our colors are red and black, not red and white. Red and white makes pink and we sure as hell ain't pink!

Sometimes tech wears white at home, sometimes gold, sometimes blue. Are those gimmicks?
Its only "gimmicky" because people have assigned that word to it based on memories from 15 years ago. There's nothing gimmicky about it. Florida et al wearing black for no reason, or Tennessee wearing grey because it looks like smoke from the mountains... now THOSE are gimmicks.

None. So what? How bout Oregon? They have a billion. What either of those schools do has zero bearing on whether us wearing a black top is a gimmick or not.
It's the same silver britches and same red helmet. Only difference is the top is the other one of our primary colors instead of the usual one. Hardly a gimmick.
Also like how you used the word alternate, which is exactly what this is. It's an alternate uniform. Since when does an alternate equate to being a gimmick?

Everyone loved them when we beat Auburns arse in 07. Then we got beat by what turned out to be a vastly superior Alabama team in 08 and now there is a stigma attached to the black tops.
Personally, I think Kirby is doing it right by breaking them out in safe situations. Maybe one day they will be a normal uniform combination we use a couple of time a year.

Well... Nike still hasn't made good on legitimate silver britches for us, yet. Silly Putty gray is about as close as they've ever gotten.

The Black Jerseys are great, but the Bama loss set them back. I think we need to get over it. The kids love them.

We're 5-1 in them and the 1 was to a vastly superior team. Despite that it was one of the best pregame atmospheres I've ever seen in athens.

The equipment staff Instagram is notorious for this type of teasing.
I doubt we will ever do a surprise uniform thing like this.
I will add, dumb as hell that we never wear them despite every recruits picture being in them.
