Last season, we only scored a measily 30 points against that bastion of football greatness, Samford. Mighty Kent State scored more points against us last season than SC did today. And a really bad Mizzou team had us on the ropes until Bennett saved our hides on the last drive of the game. That team ended up running the table and winning the natty.

Maybe I'm just a blind optimist, but I still think this is a talented football team and we can win another natty.

I don’t think the sky is falling. But we should not have the problems we are having and it’s understandably difficult to watch.

We talk all the time about playing to a standard and we didn’t play to a standard in the first half.

I’ll also add, pussyfooting around under the new time time rules could easily come back to hurt us. Fewer possessions means we have to make all of our possessions count

Before the season began, many of us realized that we had a lot of gaps to fill, but an easy schedule would give us time to build. It's working out just that way. Nothing to be worried about as long as we keep winning and keep improving.

So we should be up 27-0 at the half in every game we play, minimum, or we aren't playing up to our standard. Or am I misunderstanding your position?

I never said that. I think I’m rather appreciative understanding of all the challenges this team faces. But a lot of the issues we saw today were just lack of focus. And we see it all the time. And it’s going to bite us at some point

What would you have accepted as an appropriate halftime score?

Well said. I said months ago that SC was going to be the toughest regular season game we would play because Rattler was vastly underrated. I was expecting a tough game today. But we needed a tough game. Getting Edwards back was huge as well.

I don’t have any score in mind. More of an issue being down 11 points at home

Like I said in a previous thread, a win is a win. As a back 2 back champion you’re everyone’s Super Bowl! That being said, the Oline at times got man handled. Thank god for Edwards being back, he made a lot of plays on his own. The offense has not started quickly at all this year, that will bite them in the rear at some point this season!
Defense played a decent game, once they started attacking and getting after Rattler. Hopefully these things get fixed and get better as the year goes!

There is a method to Kirby’s madness!

So being down 7-3 would be ok with you?

Beck struggles mightily in the red zone. Also, we miss Darnell Washington and Kenny Mac. We don’t have a replacement for them. We’re going to have to lean on our defense and wear down the other team’s defense. I’m afraid we won’t be able to win a shootout.

I don't blame Beck yet.

Playcalls aren't reaching the sticks.
Maybe he checks into those plays.
Maybe he is supposed to put the ball somewhere else.

But it seems like a lot of key third downs are not stretching the ball to the sticks. When Beck completes his toss and there are unblocked defenders crashing down on the target, how much of that is on Beck?

I think it's him checking down due to lack of confidence. Hopefully, the second half yesterday will give him the confidence to start going down field more.

Could be.

Kirby said post game that Carson is able to make the same reads as Stetson.

When we don't convert (because we are designing a play into the defense), it feels like someone is missing something.

I was camping this weekend and just caught the game. I haven't seen their game thread or follow up reviews yet.
