Jimbo's agent is a freaking genius. $76.8 million to fire him.

Unreal!

THIS is what pisses most people off about Jimbo. It's the sense of unfairness that someone can be given so much, suck so bad at his job, and still come out on top if he's fired.

I have no problem with coaches earning what the market bears for their profession and top tier coaches who WIN are worth every penny! But coaches like Jimbo, who have these ridiculous contracts have no way of being held accountable for their jobs. How do universities let this happen?!?

easy answer.. leverage

in this case, Jimbo required a $75 million 10 year guaranteed contract to leave FSU.

When LSU tried to poach him a couple of years later, they were required to extend him.. or lose him.

Genius move by Woodard to make sure Aggies were stuck with him.

Nah, Woodard is the one that hired him at A&M. I think he wanted him at LSU..

Jimbo is a great recruiter. If he just had a good DC, i think they would be good. He needs a few more years.

Petrino / Elko would be damn good with the players Jimbo recruits.. if he truly just let them do their thing

I we can just get a 1,000 people to donate a dollar a day, it will only take us 216 years to raise the buyout money.

Elko is going to be a force in CFB going forward.

Petrino, eh.

Elko made Jimbo a lot of money by propping up the team and getting Jimbo that extension.

lmao ok that’s hilarious

the buyout isn’t that bad when you think about it this way..

that money is spent either way.. he is gonna get it no matter what

Pay a coordinator or BP $4 million a year

+ $1 million per win over 8 wins
+ $1 million bonus for SEC championship appearance
+ $2 million winning the SEC

you get the idea..

worst case scenario, the cost is only $32 million more for the next 8 years

eta: only $32 million sounds ridiculous, but when the athletic department brings in $150 million + a year.. that’s peanuts

as for Elko, someone else pointed out that he went to a small Ivy? I think.. and has coached at private schools most of his career.. he may end up a lifer at Duke

Played for Penn. Coaching stops include Penn, Merchant Marine Academy, Fordham, Richmond, Hofstra, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame.

He had a few stops at public schools too. Stony Brook, Bowling Green, and A&M.

Now at Duke.

I don't think he's 100% against a state school. He's spent some time at a few. But he definitely tends to gravitate towards private universities. Rare to a football coach with that many private schools. And only 3 publics in their coaching history. That doesn't happen by accident.

No the Aggies are the masters of bad contracts and overpaying. They do it nearly every single time like clockwork and the crazy thing is every time they hit the bad contract crackpipe it's worse for them than the time before.

Fran - After getting blown out by OU 0-77 in his first season as coach he managed to get the Ags to the Cotton Bowl in his 2nd season with a 7-4. The Ags though competing with no-one they couldn't help themselves but give him an extension and a raise. He would be bought out of the contract following the 2007 regular season.

Sherm - Probably the coach they should have kept he basically architected their greatest team ever with JFF and Evans et al. He is the outlier they never extended his contract and cut ties with him after the 4th season.

SS Rum Runner - Sumlin caught lightning in a bottle with JFF and was able to ambush Saban in T-Town but it wasn't until after the UF loss and of course LSU would come to town and make sure they weren't playing for the SEC championship. Despite having a setback year in 2013 by comparison to 2012 they couldn't help themselves but extend Sumlin with guaranteed money and 6 more years. He would go on to produce meddling results without JFF and would be let go

Bilbo Aggins - Had basically left FSU completely decimated but they were desperate for a name hire after their poor swagcopter went down in a blaze of glory that they way overpaid for Bilbo. All he would do in his first two seasons is produce Sumlin level results but 2020 came along like mana from heaven the Covid scamdemic would frick our society and the football season up leaving the SEC West in shambles outside of Alabama which basically left Bilbo with a 2 game season with only Florida being the other team showing a pulse on their schedule. Bilbo manages to go 8-1 still misses on the CFP but gets a lucky draw against a Mack Brown UNC team in the bowl to give the Ags their first top 4 finish since 1939. They couldn't help but think they were going to dominate the world not realizing the world was completely fricked up from the scamdemic so the backed the Brinks truck up for real. Since then regression to the mean has occurred and he basically has two marquee wins 2021 Alabama and 2022 LSU to show for it which translates into close to them paying $10mm for a marquee win.

When they cut ties with Bilbo they are going to be extra desperate this round and so I fully expect them to go for Dabo or someone like that where they are hiring based on past results despite the fact that the current incarnation bears no resemblance. It will be a record setting contract and then there will be some extenuating circumstances (freak QB, freak virus, etc) that will pump AGonizing life into their hopes and they will back up the Brinks truck again to keep the phantom suitors at bay. Rinse repeat...

As long as they don’t hire ______, I’m okay with whoever they hire. There are three names that I would fill in that blank, but one I especially don’t want them to hire.

If Urban wanted some extra retirement $ he should put his name in play. Would be interesting to see if he had anything left.

The only person in CFB I wouldn't want them to hire is Smart and there is a 0% chance he would leave his alma mater to go deal with the cult crazies.

Dan Campbell has obviously proven he knows what he is doing running the worst NFL franchise in history but who knows if he has the recruiting chops. If I were them I would at least make him say no.

Mike Elko is probably the best choice for them TBH he is familiar with B/CS and he cleaned up the Cutcliffe dumpster fire in Durham in no time flat....

Probably has Cal's agent

Cal gets contract based on Saban's contract without all that pesky success.

ok.. Kirby isn’t leaving.. so 4 names lol

Elko and Campbell would be good hires..
but JT is the one I don’t want them to hire. Fortunately, I don’t think they would seriously consider him, even though I have seen some mention his name.
