"Is this punishment for all the winning we've done"?

Milroe is pre-OU Jalen Hurts.
He’s athletic enough to put up stats against teams who can’t stop what he can do, but not ready mentally to do the things needed to beat the teams who can take away his first read.
I suspect just like with Hurts, Saban loves the kid and can’t stop focusing on who Milroe could become to acknowledge where he’s at right now which is a developmental guy who needs 1-2 more years of expert QB coaching to play winning elite level football.
But to be fair to Saban this time, I don’t think we have a Tua level talent just waiting for his shot until Julian Sayin arrives because I think Ty needs more time as well.

That’s offensive as hell to Hurts. Milroe is an absolute turnover machine, Hurts at least took care of the ball.

Milroe is not pre OU Hurts. Do you think Milroe could put the team in his back and will out a win? Milroe could never do what Hurts did when he was at Alabama. Hurts at least knew when to use his strength and take off running. Hurts could at least escape pressure, wasn’t afraid of contact and could get some yards after contact.
Milroe is not Hurts.
Milroe is not Hurts.

Milroe is maybe the worst QB for Alabama in 2 or 3 decades.

I agree that Hurts was far superior with regard to turnovers.
Hurts however is not the runner Milroe is and Milroe has surprisingly shown touch with the deep ball (when he's not throwing into double coverage).
Neither could win a championship given their skillset without learning how to process a defense so I'm not sure what's the point of arguing over who was slightly more functional but not good enough to get us where we need to be.
They were both high upside, low functioning QBs who took snaps before they were ready for the big stage at Alabama.

Outside of the SECCG after he had been benched for a year to further develop what games did he personally win for Alabama that he hadn't already put them in a position to lose by not enabling our skill players to make plays?
Bama didnt need Hurts to have a running game any more than they need Milroe to run the ball now. They needed (and need) a QB who can get the ball out to other guys to make plays. If the QB can run a little bit great, but that shouldn't be the focus of our offense with the roster we have.

Milroe threw more INTs against Texas than Hurts threw in his last 17 games as a starter at Alabama.

Absolutely, again Hurts was far superior with regard to ball control.
That said...
Hurts in big games:
2016 LSU: 10/19, 107, 5.6YPA, 0TD/1INT, 89.1 QBR
2016 SECCG: 11/20, 138, 6.9YPA, 1TD/0INT, 63.1 QBR
2016 UW CFP: 7/14, 57PA, 4.1YPA, 0TD/0INT, 31.5 QBR
2017 NC: 13/31, 131PY, 4.2 YPA, 1TD, 0 INT, 60.5 QBR
2017 LSU: 11/24, 183PY, 7.6 YPA, 1TD/0INT, 80.8 QBR
2017 AU: 12/22, 112PY, 5.1 YPA, 1TD/0INT, 78.6 QBR
2018 NC: 3/8, 21 yards, 2.6YPA, 0TD/0INT, 49.2 QBR
Milroe:
2022 A&M: 12/19, 111, 5.8YPA, 3TD/1INT, 60.8 QBR
2023 Texas: 14/27, 255, 9.4YPA, 2TD/2INT, 65.7 QBR
Their numbers are basically identical as passers.

quote:Hurts was barely 18 when he became the starter after earning it in game time against more senior players. He also had a clear huge ceiling because of how young he was.

Milroe is basically the same age Hurts was at Oklahoma. He’s been in the system for years and reads defenses no better than Hurts did the day he stepped on campus.
