The topic of Houston Nutt leaving on SEC Rant got me to thinking about the ol Darkside vs Hugger Wars. For those who were of age during that time which did you classify yourself as? I'm assuming most of the long timers here like myself were Darksiders who fled Hogville.

I was torn. I didn't like HDN personally after working with him at FCS activities. He was arrogant and treated many folks as if they were not valuable enough for his time.

But, I thought he was doing a decent job overall until the Mustang/Bragg fiasco. I received a call from a BOT member discussing this with me and was told there would be a press conference the following day, there was.... Off to OM with the golden parachute/handcuffs he went.

again, still torn. Could we, would we do better? When I got a message from a BOT member's son that Petrino was in play... I didn't believe it, then I heard the story of the baseball agent who helped connect the dots. WOW! I was thrilled HDN was at OM for back to back cotton bowls.... 50 years brother!

I mean...honestly we all pretty much started as huggers and ended up as darksiders. Its all about timing and how much of the shite show your posts contributed.

I thought he should have been fired after Matt Jones senior year.

Back to back losing records with a qb that couldn’t be caught. One with Peyton hillis. That was after 8 years on the job.

I soured on Nutt the older I got and the longer he was here. Even as a kid I knew we weren't gonna attract or produce a legitimate QB threat or utilize the passing game enough in general. Bothered the hell out of me.

God the juxtaposition between he and Petrino was insane. I'll never forget how it felt to watch us actually throw the ball around for the first time. We weren't even that good Petrino's first year but it felt like heaven to me.

HDN's career was save by 2 people. Matt Jones and DMac

This must have been pre Springdale-5. Tardville was super anti nutt after the Springdale 5. Flying banners and funding telephone polls. It was insanity.

I was ready for him to go after the 2 losing seasons but after we won 10 in a row to win the west I was pretty happy with him. The LSU game in the rock in 2006 was electric.

I was a hugger, but I also think nutt benefitted from Bama not being Bama at the time.

I'm smart enough not to have been ever a part of Hogville. I come from were the Rev comes from. We come from a forum that was small and didn't want to grow. He's my peeps. No Darkside or Hugger here.

I will say I wanted HDN gone, but my life has always been and always will be football stress free. I love my Hogs, watch every game one way or another, even back when a couple were PPV, but once I walk away from the game I don't think about it.

Wrong, it was saved by the GOBN. Finally after the affair with Bragg and the banners, they were left without a choice.

And frick Baz for having him at speak in LR at the TD club.

Oh Lord. I was right in the middle of that. Good times indeed.
HDN had some great wins, and some gut wrenching losses.
He was a 'players coach', to the point of fault at times.
He could be petty, and although I didn't like Gus being forced on him, he let his pettiness override good coaching there.
All in all, I thought it was time for him to move on, but I didn't like the way it went down.
I wasn't the darkest of darksiders, but not a blind hugger.

He should have been fired after the 2005 season. Nutt was given the infamous two year pass. He blamed the NCAA cloud for his recruiting woes but it was his poor recruiting that led to the losing seasons.

Nutt knew how to play the game and rub elbows with the right people that helped him keep his job longer than coaches before and after.

Nutt took the Ole Miss Job before the season began. He wasn't going to wait around and get fired after the 2008 season.

Nutt could have won more games but he would always bit his nails and shite his pants.

I counted and estimated on how many 7 point or less games that Nutt lost had those been flipped as wins.

1998 9 adjusted to 11
1999 8 adjusted 9
2000 6 adjusted to 7
2001 7 adjusted to 9
2002 9 adjusted to 10
2003 9 adjusted to 11
2004 4 adjusted to 8
2005 5 adjusted to 8
2006 10 adjusted to 12
2007 8 adjusted to 10

Nutt lost 20 games by 7 points or less.

And got the infamous "Golden Handcuffs " and road off to Oxford.

Again thanks to the GOBN.

I'm sure that egomaniac laughed all the way to Oxford.

You know it was bad when the big whigs got outsmarted by Nutt.

He did the same in Oxford.

Nutt shouldn't have Gus forced on him. He should have succeeded or failed on his own terms.

That caused division and it was destined to fail.

It was a huge mistake giving him the two year pass because Nutt didn't have to work hard at his job during those two years and it was a mental drain on the fans.
