Why does Pete golding get all the blame for Alabama's bad defense last year?

Golding did a fine job. The players did not make the plays. Simple as that. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Because he was shite.

Pete was damn impressive with x/o's but not how to turn loose a bunch of athletes.

Give him a class of 5th and 6 year seniors...?

But Bama could demolish teams with athletic ability enstead of conceptual defense.

Perspective is everything.

The defense was a top 10-12 unit nationally despite Golding not knowing how to call pressure.

Because they can't blame BOB for that too.

Because he had absolutely no idea of how to adjust in game, no idea of how to communicate his philosophy from the chalkboard to the field, and no ability to gain any of his players’ respect. He was a slack jawed drunk idiot who had no business anywhere near a major college football program. And yes, Coach Saban should have fired him a long time ago.

An example of how he was as a defensive coordinator; from 2008-2018, Alabama was 2nd in the nation in 4th down defense. From 2019-2022, Alabama was 42nd in 4th down defense. His defense could not make stops when needed, and fed off stopping teams with significantly less talent.

There is no better (or worse, depending on how you view it) game that epitomized his absolute ineptness as the Tennessee game last year. He never was able to adjust, and allowed TN wrs to run free all day.
