Sad that the new season ended as badly as the old one. They're out. I truly hate it for the girls. And the announcers said before the game that Bama was still in the regional host talks. How can that be?

Name brand and one of the nicest softball stadiums in the country equals dollar signs. Same reason we got the easiest draw on earth to make the world series a couple of years ago when we absolutely didn't deserve it.

And as long as it keeps happening we won't move on from Murph like we so obviously should.

They’ll get paired against Oklahoma if they actually get to host a regional. That will be an absolute slaughter.

The reason he should be FIRED is because he hired the hitting coach which the guy was already like an assistant with the team.

For the second time in three games, Alabama needed extra innings to decide a winner but it was LSU that came out on top Wednesday in the opening round of the SEC Softball Tournament, 3-2, in 14 innings.

The game was tied for the second-longest in Alabama (33-17) history, its longest since playing 14 innings against LSU (38-14) in Baton Rouge on April 8, 2011. It was the longest game by innings in SEC Tournament history.

The Crimson Tide jumped ahead early over the Tigers after a first-inning double from Kali Heivilin drove in two runs. The score remained the same until LSU loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, drawing a walk and a hit-by-pitch to tie the game at 2-2. The Tigers brought the potential winning run to third base in the bottom of the seventh with two out but a strikeout ended the inning and sent the game to extras.

The two teams left a combined 12 runners on base in extras, as it remained 2-2 heading to the 14th inning. In the bottom half of the 14th, three singles loaded the bases for LSU with one out before Taylor Pleasants ended the game with a fourth one, making the final score 3-2.

The Southeastern Conference announced its annual softball awards for the 2024 season Friday, with Alabama's Kayla Beaver and Kenleigh Cahalan both earning All-SEC Second Team honors.

The award is the first for both Beaver and Cahalan as members of the Crimson Tide, while Beaver previously earned First Team all-conference honors at Central Arkansas in 2021 (Southland) and 2023 (ASUN). Alabama now boasts 119 All-SEC awards in program history, with multiple honorees every year since 2017.

Beaver was 8-8 with a 2.48 ERA in conference play this season, earning ranked wins over Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M and Tennessee. She threw eight complete games, including four shutouts, with 88 strikeouts. Cahalan was 23-for-80 (.288) against SEC opponents, earning a hit in 16 of the 24 league games this season including five multi-hit performances. Nine of her 11 hits went for extra bases, including six doubles, two triples and a home run.

Byrne may not fire Murphy this year (he might surprise us all) but I promise you he’s paying attention. And I would love to be a fly on the wall of his office when he does Murphy’s post season evaluation. If Murphy returns next year, his seat will be hotter than the BDS turf in August. I also promise you The Ninja already has his short list of replacements he’s vetting and evaluating.

Personally, I hope he goes ahead and pulls the trigger. We’ve watched Murphy sit on his arse and coast on that lightning in a bottle natty he won way back in 2012. Alabama softball has been on a downward trajectory ever since. And hitting is the perennial problem and always has been under Murphy with his all brakes, no gas offense. Oh, he recruits kids that can hit really well until they get on campus and he absolutely ruins 99% of them. I don’t see why he deserves another year. He’s had plenty of time to recognize the problems and adjust and adapt but he won’t. He will still go recruiting the next Jackie Traina or Montana Fouts and ride her as far as she can take us, throwing them too often for too long until they break. And to hell with hitting. I’m done watching him destroy the program he built to such lofty levels. I am hoping Greg Byrne maintains the standard and tells Murphy he’s retiring and he can announce it himself or Bama will announce it for him in the form of a pink slip, his choice but there’s no sense waiting for next year. We’re already in the bottom half of the conference we used to dominate. Another year and the cellar isn’t out of the question. Rip the bandaid off, Greg. It’s time!

Yes, I'm with you on that.

Treat him just like they did Coach Dana Duckworth (EX-Gymnastics Coach) or Eli Gold! Ask him to resign or retire..either way let him know we are moving on from him!

Conference BA was 208. I dont care how many great pitchers you have you will not win many games. Only one player was over 300 in conference play with 1 RBI.

Bama has become average in SEC SB. They will stay that way when OU and UT join unless there is a fundamental change. With or without Murph we need hitters. Watching several games yesterday including the OU vs UT game and there were a number of players whose BA was over 350 including some over 400. UF had it too. ARK, UF, LSU, and UT are the top 4 teams in the current SEC with UK and Mizz right behind. We will be fighting for 8th place when the new format starts in 2025.
