With all the talk about NFL running backs not being paid, I have listened to 10-20 podcasts in the past month about how running backs should switch over to those positions. I know everything is cyclical, everyone spreads it out so Georgia goes back to inside banging (looks like Bama is headed that way too).

I heard Art Briles say once, “I don’t understand why a 6’1 receiver stays in that spot, if he switches to 6’1 corner then he makes twice as much in the league”.

Do you guys believe this is all blustery bloviating or there will be an actual trend towards this? One of the recruiting podcasts has said numerous coaches in different meetings have said running backs have asked to get more catches out the backfield and playing both ways just this year.

Edit: most of you are mistakenly thinking this is about playing time and scheme. This is about money at advanced levels.

Most RBs would have a tough time transitioning to those positions. I'd think they'd be better off focusing on their pass blocking if they want to have long term success in the NFL

I think Linebacker would be pretty easy for them and if they get big enough, defensive ends.

Myles Jack is the last player I remember playing both for UCLA. Was a great LB but just a decent RB. I am surprised you don't see it more often but there just aren't many players who can handle what it takes to learn both positions with how complicated schemes are today.

I’m not saying playing both ways, I am saying most are wanting reps at other positions for position changes at higher levels for more money in the NFL. Catching in the slot, and linebacker seem to be the most common.

Burks would have been good as a linebacker.

or safety, or running back. Burks was a freak. Best athlete to come out of the state of Arkansas since D-Mac

6’3 225 4.4 in high school those don’t grow on trees

Burks is over 6’1 and can jump which makes him better at receiver for the jump balls. More money at receiver if you can do that. Also less damage can play longer.

The running backs are mad because they have 10 years at most, usually just their first contract now, because of all the hits they take and no one wants to pay them.

This isn’t them being cut out of scheme this is about them being warm bodies in the NFL. They take hits and get paid comparatively less money.

Don’t understand why someone downvoted this. Burks was a hell of a linebacker in HS. I think he’d have a lot of upside had he chosen to go that path.

Dude, folks downvote on this site to get their jollies evidently.

I used to get slightly offended, now it is an acceptable norm. Almost a badge of honor.

Don't take it personal. If another gets their jollies with internet e-cred over fingering a button.... let em be!

it wasn't a bad idea at all btw. But he is a heckuva talent that we didn't utilize enough earlier on imho.

Downvotes are a serious post quality metric that should be taken very seriously

Rev. I was just pointing out that the downvotes regarding someone suggesting Burks might have been an awesome linebacker seem stupid based on how good he was in high school and what a high quality athlete with the speed/size/game intellect skills that he had. I really don’t care if I get a bunch or all downvotes. I get my share of upvotes on my rant posts. I also don’t have a very high opinion of any Razorback poster as we all tend to cannibalize our own or band together. There are also just a lot of people that get butt hurt too easily and it’s just a sports message board. If my opinion mattered, then I’d be working in sports and making money off of it and not posting here, lol.

There are posters, a couple of which post on this board, that I will downvote on site, before even reading the post.

Yeah, it makes me petty.
