Curious how that all works , I’m sure it’s the same as every other sport

I'd assume there was language in Wes' contract that voids a buyout for a promotion. Would be different if he were going over as pitching coach

Depends on his contract. He might have a clause that says he can leave for any HC job for free.

Seriously doubt it. Wes had the leverage in the contract

I know nothing about his contract but I'd be willing to bet money that he didn't have a buyout for a promotion (if anything at all).

Regardless of sport, almost every assistant contract will have no buyout for a promotion.

It's generally considered a really crappy thing for a HC to try to block an assistant from moving up. Thankfully, most HCs realize that when an assistant gets a head gig, it looks good on the current HC.

No coach worth anything would ever sign for a deal with a team can tell them they aren’t allowed to take a head coaching job elsewhere as a top assistant

The only time you really see this in sports is for lateral positions, or even in some promotion cases for the smaller positional jobs. The NFL allows teams (up to until recently, they may have changed this)to block positional coaches from taking better jobs but it’s very rare that teams stand in the way of that

I’m sure Georgia fans are thrilled with the news Kendall Rogers shared that they didn’t want to spend to hire a baseball coach so they had to go the assistant route.

I seriously doubt a coach of his status would require a buy out for a HC promotion. You'd never hire another PC worth a shite if that was a stipulation.

I would hope that there is language in the contract considering we lost Jason Kelly after one season...and Wes was so quick to leave the Twins but who knows. I just hope Jay finds someone he glows about as much as he did Wes.

That is some crazy life movement by Wes. Leave MLB mid-season, hasn't even finished LSU's season and already has a HC job in a state loaded with baseball talent. Maybe he is the guy to awaken a sleeping giant. If UGA didn't want to spend money on an existing HC that is pitiful but no reflection on Wes.
