Why doesn’t the SEC demand that Vanderbilt have a softball team?
This is unbelievable.

Glad the OP has decided to open up his checkbook and fund a team that would lose the school money!

Seems like with the success of their baseball program they would want it
Youth softball in Tenn is big and the travel tourney scene in Tenn is on level with anywhere in south

While some have called for Vanderbilt to add softball given the popularity and success of Vanderbilt's baseball team, Lee said that volleyball was a more feasible option due to the lack of space for an on-campus softball park. Lee felt that adding a softball team that would be relegated to off-campus facilities would not provide an equitable athlete experience.[quote]

These Vandy folks appear to have common sense…….

Dumb question, but couldn't the baseball and softball teams just share a stadium? MBB and WBB shares an arena, I don't see why baseball and softball can't share a stadium. Schedule the softball games around the baseball games.

Baseball plays for example Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Softball can play Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Or Baseball plays Monday afternoon and Softball plays Monday night or whatever.

Is there a reason that works for MBB/WBB but can't for baseball/Softball?

Well, the fields are very different dimensions so temporary fencing would be needed. Softball doesn’t have a mound, so that would need to be addressed, and no baseball team wants to deal with a removable mound. And softball is played on an all dirt infield, where as baseball is very much not.

And when you’re playing series, you can’t just be like, well, we’re gonna play every other day. That messes up your opponent’s schedule.

In short, that’s a really dumb idea haha
