Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday in Mexico, called El Dia de la Batella de Puebla. It celebrates Mexico's victory over the French in 1862, during the Battle of Puebla in the American Civil War.

Thank you. It's not Mexican Independence Day. That's in Sept.
Similarly, Texans celebrate San Jac Day(4/21) more so than Texas Independence Day (3/2).

Yes, and is not celebrated to any great extent outside of Puebla. That said, it has grown into a Mexican American Culture Celebration (filled with stereotypes or not) in the US.
They are really two very different things as they have evolved in Mexico (Puebla) and the U.S.

If that a thing? Usually they give up before the fight.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with a whale's vagina.

Really?
I don't seem to remember that they gave up before Verdun.
As a matter of fact, the French army had more men killed in combat in that one battle than the US army had killed in combat for the entire American Civil War.
Also, more French soldiers died in WWI than American soldiers have died in all the wars combined.
There's a reason Colonel Charles Stanton famously declared, "Lafayette, we are here!" when the American troops marched into Paris to join the fight.

I don’t get why people argue about wars over a century ago on here like it’s sports trash talk.
The only war most present day Arkansas fans have probably fought is for the last Boston butt at Walmart.

That's Spanish for when you are cleaning out a mayonnaise jar in the sink so you can use it for something else.

And I don't get why people disparage the one country who, more than any other country, helped us achieve independence.
Makes us look like a bunch of ingrates.
