Didn't really want to start a new thread but didn't think the full season thread deserved a bump either so oh well. After beign whisper quiet thus far on the recruit/portal front the basketball team has suddnely made some major waves as of late.

-We signed 2 high school players both ranked in the top 100.
-Wing RJ Melendez (former 4* and top 100 recruit) transferred from Illinois
-Big man Jalen Deloach transferred from VCU. These are 2 guys from big programs that were playign in the tourney 2 months ago that are now here
-We got an unexpected surprise commit from another HS player yesterday, another 4* and top 100 player. According to 247 we actually have a top 20 HS recruiting class. In basketball!

And it appears there are a few more pretty big fish we're still in the mix for as well. I know that on G-Day we announced some in-house NIL type of thing so I have to imagine that that's a major factor here. That plus having a proven winner HC (unlike Fox) taht is also not a complete tool (like Crean).

We made huge strides in year 1 and it look slike we may be primed to make another jump in year 2. I'm not gonna predict a tourney run or anything like that just yet but with the roster we're assembling I don't think it's crazy to expect at least an NIT bid.

This is good news.

No reason UGA can't compete for conference titles every year in BBall.

Where will they play this year? I read that the steg is still the long term solution, but isn't it closed rn?

Yea, its a nice looking class we have coming into next season. I like 2024 too. All signs pointing to CMW doing better than I expected so quickly. Time will tell, but being so close in recruiting to UT, Bama, Maryland and Xavier has me excited...

still stegeman. They had some companies come take a look at it structurally it is still fine, there were just a couple areas of the concrete up top that began chipping for one reason or another. I think I saw that to help mitigate this they are going to remove the center hang scoreboard and install a massive one on the flat wall instead. Personally I hate that because every arena on earth now has a center hang scoreboard so we're going to be one of the only ones anywhere to not have one. Just seems incredibly busch league but that's another story. I undestand that the work needing to be done will be finished by the time teams get back in there

good news. I keep hearing people say "no one gives a sh-- about basketball in Athens. While hoops isn't the biggest show in town, it's not the biggest show in Tuscaloosa, Auburn, or Knoxville either. If you win, they will come. I'm sure Brooks' 2nd goal behind maintaining football(which Kirby manages)is righting the ship with hoops and baseball. The SEC has always been an under-rated conference IMO so even if we are good, we have to be in at least the top 4 or 5 to make the tournament every year.

those people clearly weren't aroudn during the harrick days. Stegeman was sold out every game and was absolutely rocking. As you said, people will come show out for a winner. We jsut haven't put a fun winning product on the floor in a long time.

The way I read it was, the acutal infrastructure of the roof is perfectly fine and sound. In other words the entire roof doesn't need to be overhauled and/or the building itself doesn't need a teardown and rebuild. Due to a number of factors there were small areas inside the facility on the underside of the ceiling that caused it to have some chipping. Obviously taht's not good at all, but it was something that the experts are/were able to do whatever it is they do to fix it.

I'm not an engineer but I have to think that if there were ANY issue to public safety whatsoever more drastic measures would take place.

They seem to be blaming the new scoreboard. brooks is considering removing it and installing a new one at a different location

I'm not an engineer either.
But the building was just inspected prior to the falling concrete.

"Expert" is a term that should exude confidence.

This time, it absolutely doesn't.

That flip from USC and the DeLoach commitment were huge. Demary Jr. is the #2 rated player in NC. His hs teammate was a five star and went to Louisville.

Saw Dennis Miller preform in the Coliseum back in the mid 90's. He made a comment that this is what it's like to be inside a golf ball. Now that's the first thing that comes to mind every time I see it.

definitely. It feels like ti's been forever since we've had more than 1 or maybe 2 actual legit SEC caliber players on the roster and Whte seems to be slowly but surely adding guys like that.

It doesn't take long to turn around basketball. It's not like football. If you get a pg, a solid scorer, and a few guys that can play defense you can get it done.

DeLoach has tremendous upside. Has all the physical tools to be a top 5 player if he’s coached properly. White also signed one of the best basketball classes we’ve ever had… No one talks about it. We’ve had classes that had a 4 star and occasional 5 star, but not this highly rated across the board. The only other class i’d put ahead would be the Edward’s class.

Shoot we started competing in year 1. Our issue was last year was primarily an overwhelming lack of talent compared to our peers. I think with an upgraded roster this season finishing in the top half of the league is within sight. That would probably put us at roughly around 19ish wins and 10ish in the league. That's essentially a bubble team.
